Article: Bizarre Trick to Get Qantas First Class Awards

Is it possible after booking one of these to contact Qantas and have the regional leg removed so your booking becomes Syd-Lax?

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Waiting for ET to write an article about this magical new trick for QF F award bookings that its team has found.
But then they had this in their back pocket for several weeks or months and were just waiting for an opportune moment to publish this story, right? We may so lucky to be granted a begrudging credit somewhere in the article fine print.

Did anyone actually find any flights with Business/First seats available doing this 'hack'?

I had a bit of a search this morning choosing different regional ports and flying out of both SYD and BNE but no luck....

Yes, the F options are there. I didn‘t see much in the way of J however.

The calendar view is deceptive however - which may confuse the ET readers when they try and find these little gems.

But do you know what... I found availability, for ok dates next year (Feb 24 and plenty of days before and after if anyone is interested, ex Bendigo) but then I thought is QF F really worth it? Answer is unfortunately 'no'! I’d rather spend a tiny bit extra for JAL F, with all the true F trimmings… or spend a lot less for the business [cough] suite which essentially has the same menu and same service. :( (and, being QF, the same F WCs!)

edited… if this was your first and only opportunity to fly QF F and you really had it on your bucket list, this is a great opportunity to snag a couple of seats! (there were at least two available on the dates above)

I can't seem to find anything from any regional destination - including the Bendigo dates you have posted.

Maybe it's because I am a lowly Bronze but I've searched over multiple months this year and next year up until March and nothing above Premium economy seems available to LAX.

It seems that the availability has been pulled by Qantas. I was searching earlier this afternoon and could get 2 F tickets in both directions on almost every date in February and March from Syd and Melb. Now there is nothing.

Amazing how fast Qantas can get something done when they want to…

Better than nothing.
I was able to book a Y reward seat via a regional NSW city when sin-syd came up blank.

Fabulous hack. Tried it straight after reading and sure enough ... Does it ONLY apply to flights to LA?

"Update: Since this article was published, Qantas appears to have pulled all First Class award inventory."

Huh????

So does this mean this "hack" will no longer work at all?

I wish people would talk in normal English language.

Lol, yes.It would appear that the hack is no longer working as qantas has now stopped making any first class award seats available (ie, pulled the inventory).
