How will Ukraine Situation affect travel

My tour guide in Moscow that I still keep in touch with has had a rough couple of years because of COVID - I doubt he's going to get much work this summer either

Why the hell is the US still allowing Aeroflot to operate? It’s one thing to allow overflight, it’s quite another to let them land.

Juicy media material in Russia I suppose. Why give them further excuses to demonise the US?

Unfortunately nothing will ever happen(
West is so weak. Should have intercept it with fighter jets, land it in Canada exactly as Belarusian dictator Lukashenko did to imprison one of opposition leaders.
Seize the Airbus aircraft as EU sanctions prohibit any airspace equipment to be available for Russian airlines and also must rerun all leased Airbus airshafts in 30 days

Eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth is not the way to fight this battle. I understand you clearly have a real connection to the hostilities but there is the antagonistic way and then there is the way it's happening.

Moscow stock exchange opening time keeps getting moved back due to panic. The finance ministry has forbidden foreign asset holders to sell on the exchange. The ruble has dived by 40% this morning. Certain oligarchs are publically denouncing the action. Russia is fast becoming a pariah state and if the Ukrainian general staff are to be believed, 4,500 Russian troops are dead.

This isn't going in any way to script and that is really important.

Travel sanctions are starting to ramp up on any Russian individuals chartering western owned aircraft as well.

The potential closure of Russian airspace would have significant financial impacts on Finnair; the company withdraws its guidance and is preparing for a prolonged situation

It is basically everyone who closed the airspace to Russian planes. US still hasn't. I am sure if they do, Russia will do the return

Switzerland has abandoned it's neutral status for the first time and has adopted the EU sanctions.

Yeah, Sleepy Joe is MIA on this one.
There would be innumerable US citizens stuck in the Russia, so at least this is giving them some way out. At this stage, it makes very little difference, to what is going to be another decade or so of icy relations.

Isn’t there a whole other thread for discussions on the policy, political and actual response to the situation? As opposed to the effect on travel that this thread is for?

They didn't list Australia. Perhaps they want to challenge Qantas on Project Sunshine (though Moscow is a bit closer than NY), probably to the Gold Coast here. ;-)

We've been forgotten! Perhaps they think the border is still closed.
