SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Thank you @MattA for that link and the benefit of your experience. This is likely to be a more straightforward solution than fighting for reinstatement of miles and, given that extended timeframe, I would be able to use the original booking.

With a shoot load of luck NY just a stepping stone to another dest

is it easy to cancel the return leg only of a redemption without cancelling the other leg?

not really fussed about the $ involved.
I originally booked SYD to FRA return.
Would still like to keep SYD to FRA but I've also just booked MUC to SYD for the return only.

Well everything used to be easy at SQ...but is slower now. ;)

Years ago I did similar though I had them change the return leg and it was a quick phone call. I think that back then they did not even charge the change fee. Just the difference in booking fees.

It should be possible but you will have to call and that will not be quick. I have recently changed MEL-LHR, FRA-ADL from MEL-JFK,SEA-ADL it was all quite easy and the agent reserved the seats, I had to call back once once I had transferred some additional miles and the tax difference was a refund which was back on my CC within a couple of days.

abundance of miles so I've already booked the return from MUC.
the return from FRA will be a straight cancel/refund

Just to provide some balance to the comments about the slow reaction times from the SQ call centres recently (and similar comments re the QF call centres), I had a need to have my FF number added to an SQ booking (made by a third party), and for some reason, the website and App would not allow me to do it on-line.

I sent a text to the PPS Connect service and had a response within an hour, rather than the usual 10 mins. I asked how busy they were and was informed that most Singapore based operators are still working from home and she had a list of call backs numbering over 50 at 0700 Singapore time with more being added every minute.

I do know that there are some changes that cannot be done on-line but we must realise that SQ continues to maintain flights to and from Australia right through the pandemic. It cannot be easy. (I may be an apologist for SQ, but they have rarely let me down).

@mel-world I will use online when ever possible the only reason I had to call is due to fact that SQ will change booking and reroute over the phone without penalty. If SQ had lifted/ waived the points redeposit fee I would have happily cancelled the bookings waited for the points to come back and rebooked. I am happy to wait on the line for about 40-60 minutes and save USD225 to make some changes for me it is not that problematic, just call leave the phone on speaker and continue working until they answer. I am only SQ *G so I get I will have to wait and from what I have read QF wait times are far worse for the masses than SQ.

Seat advice please for EWR-SYD. Can only choose 15 back (no bulkhead). I’d like a window and quiet.
Are you on the 2 class a350 ULH? If so and if R15 is the best you can get I would take that. The only bulkhead seats are R11 and R19, R11 will be blocked for PPS members R19 is a basinet seat and near the galley, R12 may also be blocked for SQ SG. We were booked on one of these aircraft LAX-SIN and seats we selected were R12,14,15 when playing around with who would sit where I was the only one in the booking that could select R12. I would like to be able to provide more detail on how the seating was however Covid put a stop to the flight. I asked a similar question when looking for seating advice up thread.

Thanks @Matt_01, yes is the A350 ULR. I read around a bit on FT etc.
I wonder if one aisle is busier that the other with FAs main routes etc. I’ll stick with 15 and maybe if this trip actually comes off, try to figure out if / when row 11 comes up.

You might also want to consider the position of the tray table and proximity to the window. If you want to be closest to the window, with small table on the left, select the even numbered rows. Maybe a bit more private. Although I cannot be certain, I think the odd numbered rows have the small table on the right. You can see the position as you select your seats.

From what I can see, all tray tables are against the windows. I much prefer the seat next to the window, but it does not seem to be an option on the A350 ULR.

Are you thinking of the a350 that is used for regional routes, these have off set seating with some seats on the window and some on the aisle (like QF). It is best to check the exact seat number on these aircraft as seat position based on row number changes as SQ does not use R13, i.e R11, 14, 16, 18 A/K are on the aisle and then the mini cabin R19 is also on the aisle. The other a350s including the ULH are all the same with no off set seating.
