COVID-19 and Tennis

I just hope TA are as diligent in their refund policy for cancellations due to symptoms, isolation ,test pos etc affecting going to the open. Or will they insist on the level of medical specialist input that applied to Novax
PS = irony alert.
I fear the threshold test will be even higher but I know which law firm to call😂😂😂
I'll 'send' you a SMS text (covid result) lol

The diplomatic and public backlash from some parts of the community will be too much for the government in a federal election year

I think you grossly over estimate this, many more people support border sovereignty than Novak. The Serbian community is not that influential and Serbia is not an important trading partner.

Tickets for AO have already been sold, his playing or not has zero impact on the revenue for the event, in fact him being allowed to play may result in a lot of no shows which hurts the related revenue for food and drink.

More political damage would have been done had the Feds just let him in, without trying to prevent him.

More from the Guardian

In the interview, Djokovic confirmed he tested positive for Covid-19 on 16 December, and then negative on 22 December.

This is the key point of the transcript - where the interviewer advises Djokovic at 5am he could have more time to speak to people about the intent to cancel:

INTERVIEWER: So the interview is being recommenced at 5.20am. Okay - I have already served you with the notice of intention to consider cancellation and at the moment you need – what have you have advised me is that you need rest and up to 8/8.30. And that’s when you would be able to speak to your solicitor again.
DJOKOVIC: Yes.
INTERVIEWER: And get some more information.
DJOKOVIC: Yes.
INTERVIEWER: So that’s absolutely fine, because I have spoken to my supervisors and they’re more than happy to - - -
DJOKOVIC: Okay great.
INTERVIEWER: - - - for you to have rest. So any more questions?
DJOKOVIC: No more questions for now.
INTERVIEWER: So what’s going to happen is, because I’m going to be finishing my shift, so this case is going to be handed over to another team. Another case officer is going to come out, and speak to you. They’ll introduce themselves - - -
DJOKOVIC: Okay.
But then, that deal, in the words for Judge Anthony Kelly was “reneged” .

Interviewer 2 comes in at 6.07am, and tells Djokovic if he doesn’t respond in that interview then “ a decision might be made based on the information that’s at hand now” and it is possible a decision will be made based on the evidence they have now.

The interviewer then informs Djokovic he’ll be taken to a hotel by government contractor Serco, and then if he has anything else he wants to add:

DJOKOVIC: Well as I said before, I just, what I can say is that, I’m surprised that there is insufficient information on the very reason why I was granted the medical exemption by Victorian state independent medical panel which confirmed that I have fulfilled the criteria to enter Australia based on, based on the criteria that they haveimposed which is not on the paper which you read to me and that is if you had encountered or had a positive Covid PCR test in the previous six months, and you can provide the negative PCR test and the sufficient amount of antibodies, then you are granted access and that’s exactly what happened in the whole process. So we provided -- I provided medical documentation, on 16 November, I was positive on PCR, PCR test positive COVID-19, 22nd I was negative. I sent the blood analysis for my antibodies and had a sufficient amount and I was granted the access to Australia and I received the documentation that supported my medical exemption and the travel declaration coming from the federal government.
INTERVIEWER: Okay. Is there anything else you would like to add?
DJOKOVIC: No.

If the govt was going to cave I'd love to know why they waited until this afternoon and didn't cave last Friday before so many legal costs were incurred. But that folks is Australia's "model litigant" in action 🙄

Somehow I don't think it's the political backlash from the Serbian community that is the problem. There's a certain group that seem to be co-opting all sorts of movements to advance their cause of freedom, backed and egged on by certain groups in the US. We've seen their protests, we've seen the political nuance that goes into managing this group, these are the ones that could be the problem. Not the Serbian government or Serbian Australians.

Don't know why they don't simply fence them off and leave them glued to the road without support.

From everything Ive read a PCR test will not show a negative this soon after a positive. So either he used a RAT which is not accepted for travel to Australia (another problem) or is again lying.

Because they are not paying the bills; you & I are!

You can always let the minister, Alex Hawke, know what you think by signing the petition to deport Novax - No Vaccine Exemption for Djokavik
48,000 signed already and clicking over as you watch.
How many of those are Australian? Couldn't give a toss what any non citizen thinks

Edit: oops sorry read that as petition against deportation

Not true with the new variant and I have lots of first hand evidence with colleagues in the last few weeks.

If he gets to any of my ticketed games including final I refuse to go. It’s disgusting TA attempted to support players in this farce by the ‘ATAGI defence’. Shameful…
if not for vaccination there would be no Aus Open.
Last year it was exemptions to enter the country and the tournament not vaccinations - the AO did occur and the sky did not fall.
