QFF to Seoul?

I've got to do a work trip to Seoul around December-ish - there has been the odd mention in recent months of COVID bubbles with South Korea etc. and QF flying to Seoul but I haven't heard anything more about it in the last few weeks. It seems like the bubble idea with certain countries is gone now and its pretty much go where you want from November 1st, but has anyone heard anything new about QF flying to Seoul recently? Otherwise as QFF Gold I guess my best option is QF to Singapore then anotherairline to Seoul?

Another possibility might be QF to Tokyo then JAL to Seoul? Might be a neater itinerary.

Not sure if it would restart by Dec but HND used to be an ideal transit - either QF25 -> JL91, or JL52 -> JL95. JL HND-GMP flights are currently suspended.

The added benefit was flying into GMP instead of ICN.

It will be interesting to see how Qantas service South Korea now that OZ is being folded into KE.

Cheers! It sounds like you know the options for flying into South Korea much better than I do - my ultimate destinatiuon is the Wonju area - is GMP the best airport to fly into for that?

I think you'll need to catch a bus from Seoul but yeah, GMP is better than ICN in almost every aspect except duty free shopping and departure lounges.

Cheers for the input - I've never been to South Korea or anywhere in that northern Asia region so its a bit of a learning curve for me. Just found out a few minutes ago that I have to do a trip to Houston in June next year so I hope that QF start the DFW flights again before then!

I don't think the Qantas flights to Seoul that were talked about last year will be happening anymore - at least, not in the next couple of years. They only would have happened if Australia launched a travel bubble with South Korea and Australians weren't really able to go anywhere else. Now that much of the world is opening up, Qantas is already struggling to find enough planes to service its existing destinations.

SYD-DFW is already on sale for 2022 though.

Cheers Mattg - it seems the whole situation has changed in a hell of a hurry in the last two weeks. A few weeks ago QF were retiring two of the A380's - they might need them now!

Just the Qantas calculator missing the route.

At 735mi, HND-GMP in JAL business earns 40 SC - just make sure it's not the KE codeshare which would not be eligible to earn points or SC.

You might notice this doesn't tally with the calculator results for NRT-GMP, which at 765mi earns 60 SC. Those extra 30mi tip the NRT flight into the higher 750-1500mi earn bracket.

I'm still trying to find out if we can fly into Seoul without having to quarantine etc - the answer seems to be a closely guarded secret.

This tool from Air Canada might have the information you need: Travel Ready hub | Air Canada (scroll down to the 'meet entry requirements' box and click on the link).

From a quick reading it seems most people will need to quarantine on arrival unless you've had your vaccinations in Sth Korea or registered with the Sth Korean health system. Exemptions exist which you'd need to have a look at to see if they apply.
