So it has come to this ………. the Olympians should be grateful that they can return to their own homes!

I am relieved I live in NSW as it has not sunk to these depths. At least not yet.
Well, there are many SA residents that haven't been allowed back in. I agree. It stinks you can't even come back to your residence.

Olympians are there. I heard an interview this moring from Howard Springs - a description in this case of 4 bedrooms sharing a common area, with shared balconies (might have that a bit wrong). What's the source for 3000/2000 (not doubting, just curious)?
My brother in law is in Howard springs right now off a repatriation flight. There are definitely Olympians there - the swim team is there. There are 4 cabins in a row abs they all “share” a balcony but you aren’t allowed to walk on any bit of the balcony other than your patch (apparently demarcated with yellow lines). And masks at all times - apparently not fun in 30c+ Darwin heat. He says despite that it is fine - chilled out atmosphere and having the fresh air each day is a godsend.

the domestic thing is hard as when hotspots get released the domestic inmates then demand instant release and it’s a headache for them.

There were 60 Olympians that flew into HS last week

At least Tasmania has modified it's QLD restrictions. Now only for those that have visited high risk premises - all 271 of them.but all clear for the SEQ LGAs.So at present I will be right to go in 2 weeks.

Gotta love/hate the media though. They have a picture of Kyle Chalmers holding his medal with the 28 day story of quarantine. Trouble is, he isn't impacted as he is in Howard Springs.

How ironic that the document that binded our ties together as a nation has ultimately done the most damage to the ideal of being one united nation.
Indeed. By the time the Brisbane Olympics come around each state will be independent and will send their own 'national' team and with no Federal Govt to share the costs Queensland will have to fund the entire show impoverishing the state for years to come.

NSW will have to build a wall to stop Queenslanders fleeing south. :)

There’s a trending discussion to have the SA CHO sacked….
Honestly - people in SA are supportive given the recent Modbury cluster. Olympian’s who have had the chance to do their dream and now complaining they can’t see their family for 2 months having travelled overseas to do it, aren’t getting any traction for those who haven’t seen loved ones for 18 months.

Australia exists no more.
I agree with you and feel devastated for the loss of my country. These power hungry premiers will never return the powers they have exercised in the pandemic to the top drawer. Some are already talking about permanent use of QR check in codes after the pandemic ends, and some have already allowed police access to QR codes. We have the ADF patrolling the streets. We have citizens denied entry to the country. We have citizens denied exit from the country. We have residents of a state locked out from their homes, jobs, families because they dared to go to another state.

I have good friends who grew up in the former East Germany, and who still live in Berlin today. We have often discussed their life experiences and they said "it wasn't so bad really, and anyway, we did not know what we were missing. You just followed the system, everyone knew the system, and most knew the ways around the system." I think I now have an actual understanding of what they meant. Most days, my personal experience is "not so bad". Some days are awful and some days are great. The big difference is that I know what I am missing. Won't bore you all with another recitation of that, but I am certainly missing a lot of things I will never get back and I know it.

OT, but I lived in Frankfurt in 1990 and 1991 and made several trips to East Berlin. The GDR government put a lot of resources in making East Berlin a success story as it was regarded as a shop window for communism. One conversation I will always remember after it was clear that Germany was going to be reunited. A retired lady living in a nice apartment in EB told me that her rent then in 1990 was the same as it was in 1949. She was very fearful that rents would skyrocket but didn't expect her pension to rise accordingly. Her view was that most East Berliners would suddenly see the GDR time as the 'good old days'.

Just because you are vaccinated, it doesnt mean you cant contract and pass on the virus.
This is a very true statement. I have 3 instances in my family where all 3 adults (mum, dad & sis) were fully vaccinated and all 3 contracted the virus. One of them (dad) spent 6 weeks in a hospital and then another 3 weeks in self isolation

Probably permanently brain damaged from the rantings of the questionable SA CHO. Even the usually silent national CMO disagrees saying they have no idea what the ‘advice’ is founded on…
