Hi brains trust.

As you're all aware, Qantas is offering to extend current FF status if you book one flight before the end of membership year.

I have gift vouchers purchased from 18-24 months ago during double status credits which have sat unused due to an inability to fly.

Can I use it to book the flight to extend my membership or will the PNR the gift voucher has been issued with not allow me to qualify to extend my membership? The T&Cs simply state you need to book the flight before end the of the membership year.

Thanks.

I happened to look up info on QF status extension today for a friend whose membership year ends at the end of July:

The booking creation date must be between 23 November 2020 and before the member’s current status end date of between 31 March and 31 December 2021. The flight must be booked to travel before 31 December 2021.

Sounds like your gift voucher was purchased prior to 23 November 2020...

yeah if the GV was purchased prior to 23 November 2020 then you would have to call to get it done manually. It would not happen automatically given the criteria. The PNR should show the date of the actual flight booking.

To be extra certain though you may wish to make a new booking - potentially for a flight you may feel QF will cancel for a full refund OR potentially as a triple points earner (if you care about that) under the current promo.

Yes, my GV was purchased in 2019 before the s**t hit the fan. I figured it'd not qualify.

This is intriguing. My state border is currently closed and Vic/NSW/Qld are in lockdown but the QF website continue to allow you to book flights to those capital cities for hypothetical travel on Monday.

So QF doesn't appear to cancel flights but the govt borders are closed. Does this mean cancelling will incur cancellation fees and also fail the T&Cs for the status extension?

Many many MANY flights have been cancelled, but as above there are flights still for essential workers and even transits (eg: LST-xMEL-BNE). a bit OT to this topic but that's the reason there are still SOME flights. (plus belly loads of freight I am sure and other things.
