Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Not wanting to generalise but here goes - you’d be hard pressed to find a group of people more likely to break the rules than construction. There’s a site office for a hotel redevelopment near me and they’ve rented some old retail space for the office. The staff in the site office would never wear masks even when the indoor mask mandate was declared. Someone must have reported them as they covered the window over, so they could continue not wearing masks.

I feel for the builders who do the right thing but that applies to hospitality venues, retail and all other sectors hurting. Construction gets looked after very well in this country.

Gladys has basically guaranteed regardless of case numbers that construction will reopen on time. How come every other sector doesn’t get that guarantee?
I like how they now have a plan and it only took 2 days to come up with to allow some form of construction. Shame they could not have done this before being forced and slowed some spread that is contributing to other businesses not allowed to open till zero cases.

Gladys is fast losing control. Why else would she be so stupid as to give such a guarantee? What is she going to do if cases are 200+ per day by then?

It does seem a little premature to offer any promises on anything right now I agree.

PS Zero cases in QLD as tweeted from Japan by the QLD Premier… Did anyone see this update from them in Japan?! It also features Dr Young and the Acting Premier! Guaranteed to lighten your Wed mood :)

ABC news in Sydney reported this morning that SA CHO had confirmed genomic link of the 81 year old man from Argentina to the Sydney delta outbreak. Has it been established yet if he is a citizen or PR?

NSW recorded 110 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.
Of these locally acquired cases, 54 are linked to a known case or cluster – 40 are household contacts and 14 are close contacts – and the source of infection for 56 cases is under investigation.

Thirty-seven cases were in isolation throughout their infectious period and 17 cases were in isolation for part of their infectious period. Forty-three cases were infectious in the community, and the isolation status of 13 cases remains under investigation.

Two new overseas-acquired cases were recorded in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

So based on above, up to 73 infectious in the community.

Kerry Chant having the day off today. Who can blame her?

How is this possible now so far into a lock down? They can’t all be essential workers?
Well under the Sydney non-definition of essential workers ..............

Kerry Chant having the day off today.

Yes and her stand in is a bit weak. There’s been some concerning stories about her in the media so I hope she is ok.

After Prof Sutton she’s the best state CHO we have. Hope she is back firing on all cylinders tomorrow!

All that I've heard is that he lived here once. But that can mean a holiday. Given he was granted a compassionate reason to come to SA I'd say not even a PR but can't confirm. Why he didn't have to do self isolate and testing on three days, coming from a NSW Public Hospital, and not the usual quarantine, well, what could possibly go wrong. It did. But for a very ill man he sure got around. Not all the places obviously but certainly at the start.

I doubt she would give iron clad guarantee on it. It would be subject to numbers going down. I just cannot see it happening.

NSW Gov must be losing so much money on contractors claiming extension of time, that's why they want to get construction back ASAP.

Also I agree that the construction industry is pretty bad at it. I see them wearing masks that doesn't cover the nose all the time.

Unfortunately they don't split whether these people were primarily at home.. or actual workers in the community.

Put simply there are still far too many categories of allowed workers.. and we've seen the massive public pushback from the construction industry, despite the multiple case in the concrete plant and the nearby road surfacing firm in Greenacre.

I think the promise on construction is just to get through the next week. Reported the cabinet vote was only 3-2 on that sector, and lots of blowback coming from the media.

The default mask-wearing position in construction seems to be under the chin. They are not alone though.

It is quite amusing to see Barilaro give an update on what you can, can't do. I hope he remembers to remind his daughter.

Yes a lot of questions like ‘If you can promise the construction industry a reopening day what about XYZ industry…’

At about this stage of the Vic Second Wave the authorities were saying that they had to assess the data, and then decide on further measures. Which as we all know was too late. Vic just kept chasing its tail at that stage (Lockdown not commencing till Day 42).

The concern at today's NSW Presser is that NSW is also essentially saying this and that they will look at the data next week, and especially as today's set of numbers are ugly in terms of 60 infectious cases in the community and also number not yet linked, and Delta is a quicker beast.
