JQ to launch CBR flights

Wow didn't see that coming...

A Jetstar A320 would actually be better than many of the QF Dash 8's they've been running on the BNE-CBR route lately.

One has to wonder if there is a different motive here... Rex is suggested to be looking at QLD flights soon and perhaps JQ is getting in early so that they can claim they were there before ZL.

Of course there’s some sort of motivation. Hard to tell if it’s crushing Rex or dragging down VA’s margins or both. Good in the short term for Canberra based travellers.

Sounding very much an early strike at Rex as well as the frequency and schedule looking to capture leisure traffic ex-CBR to warmer climates…..

I’d think it’s a strike against both Rex AND VA. Both QF and JQ on the same route….there’s not enough room for 4 carriers there, and the QF program is rather ”sticky”
And QF/VA/ZL already operate (and will be operating) between CBR and MEL...

Didn't see that coming. I never thought that QF would cannibalise their Government Travel with letting JQ into that route. But there you go. But glad they're doing it though. $99 each way is an absolute bargain. I just wonder how the government travel will go with cheapest fare of the day?

Probably not too much cannibalisation going on with departure from BNE @1200 and CBR @1430. Less business oriented travel times. Well worth some cannibalisation if it prevents other carriers from taking the low end of the market.

$129 in today's Happy Hour sale...
I think you'll find it's $129 (travel dates from 20 July onwards) as a part of the happy hour sale.

From 2 September (date of JQ launch) VA fares drop $99 which directly matches the JQ launch fare once you consider a 20kg checked bag.

As mentioned in the above posts the JQ launch fare is $75 but it works out at $100 if you include a 20kg bag.

Regular JQ fares not a part of the launch $75 sale look to be from $129 up to $179 (probably putting it at one of the more expensive JQ routes by distance traveled). Worth noting that on days JQ is $179, QF is about $218 so hardly 'competitive'.

Well I've booked on the inaugural CBR-BNE. $75 is a pretty good deal for that route!

VA has now dropped to $99.

This really isn’t good news for VA2, if JQ is deployed alongside QFLink and mainline to compete with Rexy, VA2 will be forced to compete and this is going to put massive pressure on their margins as they build their customer base back up.

Melbourne needs to happen. Tiger was double daily. TT at one point had MEL/ADL/BNE.

Did you add bundle?
Admittedly, yes. Still only $160 with a Max Bundle including baggage, a meal voucher, a seat in row one and 20 status credits. Qantas on this route is normally $250+ for a red-eDeal fare. And there’s a QF lounge in CBR I can use before the flight.
