This quote is not surprising. It's going to be a bitter fight ahead, again. Let's hope there's room still for 1 decent competitor to the Qanstar domination of the market.

It's no accident that these largely mirror the routes announced last week by challenger Virgin Australia, as both airlines fight for a larger slice of the domestic market.

Surprised to read Sydney to Uluru is considered a new route, they have definitely flown this previously. A few years ago I flew SYD - ASP stopover ASP - AYQ stop over AYQ-SYD on QF metal.

SYD <->AYQ would have to be pre 2011?

Time flies but yes it was according to my phone (doesn't feel like that long). I just never noticed they stopped flying that route, AYQ is not a regular destination for me once about every 10 years or so.

With no overseas travel on the table, many Aussies would be looking at ticking off some domestic bucket list items so would make sense for QF to fly these route not just JQ.

I'm still hopeful that QF may upgrade aircraft on my upcoming SYD-BME to one with J seats, last time I went to BME there was J, not sure why using smaller single class planes now.

For those that don’t want to give 'that' travel blog the click - all the info is here plus 787 being deployed on domestic routes and more A330’s coming online. Qantas mainline to exceed 100% pre-covid capacity.

Now we just need the hire car companies to upgauge too 😆

Last time I flew SYD-AYQ-SYD on QF and back was Sept 2007. Interestingly the only other time I flew that route was a month earlier.

Maybe just as well the SYD-AYQ route isn’t due to start until March 2022. The resort is struggling for staff and currently only open to around half capacity

Last time I was there it seemed like everyone who worked there and most of the tour guides (excepting a handful of indigenous guides) were all back packers.

Well my family flew AVQ-SYD.But it was when the film Evil Angels was being made.Meryl Streep was in the room next to us at the Sheraton Alice Springs.
