Nice bit of fear mongering from our once great national broadcaster. I don't know a whole lot of people who spent time in ICU and were running marathons a few months later

Yawn what a stupid story. I also note on the TV version they completely glossed over the pre-existings that were present....

But hey if it scares some more people into getting vaccinated what do we care.

l read that story earlier yesterday and didn’t think it was particularly fearmongering in the way 7 news or ACA would be.

Only after just one paragraph it sum arises the key points as:

I agree. Not newsworthy.

A better story would be that roughly 99% of people have managed to recover from COVID. As an example, 0% of people have recovered from HIV. Good perspective. Not one we’ll ever see reported.

But how did they get his name........Surely names aren't always released to the media. I think he outed himself as there was so much personal detail in that story.

It was explicitly stated he did not want to be named - why would he want it leaked, it would bring threats from crazies.

More likely a disgruntled worker at one of the stores outed him, then easy to get his picture from a board report etc.

Well multiple people from his current employer would have known his schedule, plus HR would have notified any staff who had been in meetings with him.

It is also not inconceivable that a store manager recognized him from a competitor firm, if he is known in industry circles.

Plus we dont know that he was mystery shopping, he could have actually had meetings/appointments at some of those sites.

Or someone at the lab or in contract tracing team could have also done the wrong thing.

Or the paper hired a PI to piece it together, some security guard may have supplied video footage, checked the license plate etc.

It really doesn't matter how they found out, the issue is whether they should have published it?

If the BBQ guy wanted to be outed, surely he would have provided an interview? The tabloids would have jumped at the chance.

If Australia has any chance of surviving this then as much as possible we need to maintain relationships with the outside world. So much of our money and goods, and medicines come from overseas. Even basic medicines. Our Defence services needs and equipment. And in this case anyway, he is based in Australia. While many like to think we are an island, we simply aren't.
