Australian Cricket and COVID-19

Not tennis but Cricket. Cricket Australia wants the Australian touring team to go to the top of the queue for vaccinations. Sure. On yer bike.
Much better that than that the tour be cancelled. It's not as though people would die because of it.

Vaccinations from covid-19 or stupidity? Several players need both given they're returning to South Africa :)

And yes definitely agree. On your bike CA, bowled straight in to middle stump with that sort of a claim.

UK cancelled the tour just into the first match. Tournaments around the world are being cancelled. I don’t see the issue with cancelling if it is that unsafe. Why protect people who willingly go into a high risk country just for a game of cricket ?

Didn't know there was a UK cricket team. Maybe we need a fact check on that.

So the vaccine now exists and is the (eventual) route back to normality, but you would advocate holding it back in favour of what, 30, 40? random Australians who are in no danger of catching COVID anyway, thereby destroying the enjoyment of millions of people who would derive great enjoyment from 'just a game of cricket', passing up on a possible opportunity to spruik the 'this is what a vaccine can do' line to anti-vaxxers, all in the name of pointless appeals to 'fairness' and 'if I can't have it why should they?' small-mindedness?

Net benefit to vaccinating 30 people who won't catch COVID-19 anyway: X.

Net benefit to vaccinating 30 touring cricketers: much more than X.

It's obviously going to be a long road back to normality.

Semantics withstanding, not sure of the millions going to be interested in the tour right now. Nor do I think the current team are in any way role models to the anti vaxxers. The vaccine does not exist yet in Australia for use and will not be implemented here prior to their departure in early February. If they are in no danger then why would they need it? I see no benefit in them having it if the rationale is to lead by example. And I'm more interested in front line workers in Australia getting it than myself although I will be ready when my turn comes.

Sure thing. The recent india Australia test was excellent and gave us all something to watch and cheer about in thus time of doom and gloom.

England played all 3 T20’s in South Africa and then the ODI series was cancelled due to a South African player getting Covid.
England are currently playing a test series in Sri Lanka and start a series in India at the start of February.
There is currently a Women’s series in South Africa between them and Pakistan and the men’s team travel to Pakistan next week.
People are playing cricket all around the world currently so I can’t see Australia not going there with or without a vaccine

I've got no problem with the cricketers going on the tour but the vaccine is in pretty short supply and demanding players vaccinated to go rubs me the wrong way.

That said we know the Pfizer must be given in batches of 900-something doses, so if it could be arranged that they are all vaccinated as a group at a hospital that had "spare" doses which is most definitely possible considering they don't last beyond the day, then I'm OK with that.

Have no issue with them travelling.
