Don't be a sore loser ;) Jokes :)

Can HBA take a 787? Expecting that is what QF will be using in the repatriation flights.
Sorry mate, worked on it 4-5 years ago now, don't remember the runway total length & moved jobs since so no access to the drawings, I do remember there was footprint for 777 on the terminal gate, but no 787.
I'd imagine both would have similar runway requirements.

I'd hazzard to guess after the extension it'll suit the 787, just can't confirm.
Maybe google earth could help here.

Well it's January 2021 and there seems to be no sign of this launching.

No surprise there. We call it Slowbart for a reason. I think they’re still sorting immigration etc.

The fact that there's still no quarantine-free travel to NZ permitted also presumably doesn't help...

CX8178 and CX111 still flying out of HBA?
I was visiting Richmond when I spotted a CX aircraft on final approach into HBA on 30 December...

The parking/refuelling chart lists aircraft up to 777-200. The runway is not super long, but is reasonable. I should think that anything up to about 10 hours would be easily within range. Biggest issue would seem to be the pretty poor taxiway set up.

Approaches are a bit limited, with even the ILS only getting you to about 300'. I've never operated to there though, that's just the impression from a quick look at the charts.

Well a LCC service is better than none! Well done Tassie! Wonder how long it will last.

You seem put a negative pessimistic slant on many comments.

(Almost) Every NZ A320 service is a LCC experience - that's my opinion. And from the numbers and population bases it draws from I just think this route is going to be very marginal and will last only as long as the subsidy is available.

How many NZA320 you travelled on?

Qantas have a number of marginal low pax loss making routes, but they keep them going for various reasons.

Probably about 25-30 flights, though not since Feb 2020, so maybe they have had a revamp.
Well fair enough then, that's plenty flights to know how they operate, I just think it's great for Tassie to have these international flights, even if just to NZ.

I see it as a positive.,
