A friend's daughter is 'caught' in London - she is now trying to get back to Sydney ASAP (she's had Covid and pleurisy twice) .... and as we all know Australia is likely to tighten controls over people returning from the UK. Flights are of course very limited and extremely expensive.

however I can see on the AA website - award flights to LAX (via ORD or DFW) then another award LAX to SYD - all in the next few days. I am wondering what are the chances of getting bumped from an award seat (in business) when booked so close in. My concern before recommending this approach to my friend is that her daughter could get 'stranded' in the US en-route which would be highly undesirable.
