Book a flight and Extend Current status to 2022

My membership year ends on 30 April 2021. In regards to the status rollover, if I take a flight in December 2020, can those status credits roll over from May 2021? Mostly asking as I have a flex fare booking for SYD-CNS and wondering if I should keep it or just book a cheaper fare. The underlying credit voucher was due to expire in Feb 2021 (and wasn't eligible for extension - though if I cancel this flight would I get another 12 months for the new credit?).

That's my understanding as well. Shame, as I have four gift vouchers I need to (eventually) use.

On a related note, what's the difference between gift vouchers and "Qantas gift cards"? The latter is mentioned an eligible form of payment for new flight bookings for the purpose of this extension.
Gift vouchers are the old 'tech' so to speak - they use a booking reference to create the 'voucher', which seems to be being phased out. (no more DSC hording).
The gift cards - are an actual form of payment (like AMEX, MC, VISA), but called UATP.

I don't know if one will be phased out over time or not though.

Drat - I just booked a flight for work on 22nd, from Canberra to Brisbane return for next Monday. Oh well, I have a couple more flights to do for work before my expiry date 30 June 2021.
But, I'm very pleased about the offer from Qantas. I would have stuck with them anyway, as I have less than 250 SCs until I hit LTG. On the flip side, Virgin Mk3 doesn't seem to be worrying about Canberra, so Qantas it is by default.

Although the DSC itself only lasts 12month IIRC?

If this is for the travel pass from what I can see they are deemed to be "Bonus" and will not roll.

The travel pass has: "You’ve chosen to earn double Status Credits on eligible flights* for all passengers booked when using your Qantas TravelPass" and the Asterix "This offer is valid when you make a new Eligible Flight booking between 12.01am (AEST) 1 September 2020 and 11.59pm (AEDT) 31 December 2022."

I am very grateful to be getting the free extension, but do think it is a little unfair on those based in Aus and NZ. Perhaps to be fair they should have offered an extension for a fee to those outside roughly equivalent to the cost of booking a cheap flight e.g. $50 plus 8000 Qantas Points or $150.

Perhaps the even up for you is that if they do not book a flight there will be no rollover SC's for their next membership year?

I understand you want it to be fair in the respect of if AU/NZ have to book at least one flight then the others should "pay up" too but really.. this just recognises the reality that someone in the UK or US or wherever is almost certain to not be able to fly on a QF service from wherever they are. That's just the reality of how it will be almost certainly till the 2nd half of 2021.

Given all we have to do is book one single flight to earn this I have zero issue at all.

Unfair to those of us who booked a flight BEFORE the special?

Heading off to be wandering

Just read from Executive Traveller that overseas residents are going to get an extra 12 months free without having to fly, so you guys have it easier than us!

In reality it costs them nothing and overseas residents pretty much get nothing. I'd call it a win win.

So just going to put this out there since I am sure it will come up. If you book one flight (and that can be one way) do you still need 4~? I am assuming not.

It is an interesting strategy. I am surprised it is only ONE booking required rather than say 2 or 4 or something. That's so super generous it's almost ridiculous - specially for higher status levels like WP and P1. Not complaining but I wonder if this is going to shoot themselves in the foot a little bit.

It is a new strategy for sure and I like the aspects - flight cancelled status extension for one (which seems reasonable given how volatile the whole situation is and only a few would game this for "free" status extension imo) and the rollover SC's too.

So, while it is a bit complicated I do think it goes a long way to accepting the situation for members and doing what it takes to keep the business.. even if it is one flight!

If you book one flight and retain benefits for another year, then the next flight you book will likely be with QF as well. Keeps anything Virgin might offer in check.

Finally someone joined the dots....I see it too as once status holders take a simple single flight, even with FF points, then your much likely to continue on flying with QA as you have the status perks & less likely to switch over to Virgin or Rex.
Rather straight forward scheme.

I can't believe so many trying to find a loophole, seems like Vic lockdown loophole search all over again.

I'm not all over what international carriers doing with their FF programs, but this really is a win for QAN & status holders.
I'm off for a QF flight in 2 weeks, no issue of covid safety, just happy to get back onboard finally, but don't hold QF status anyway.

I'm sure Virgin will follow to some degree, how could they not.

We are just an experienced bunch when it comes to combing through T&C and optimising value - but given how easy it is to meet the eligibility requirements I don't think many AFF members will be exploiting the book, retain & cancel loophole.

I’m a EO March WP, I’ve already requalified until Mar 22 so don’t need the extension.

I will struggle to requal for WP next year and extend to 23 The SC rollover would have helped but most of the period has already passed and I was unable to fly due to border closures - and the few flights I did were on JQ which aren’t eligible (W enough though I paid for the bundle).

WP seems to serve no benefit without international travel. It may have been better to “park” WP and above status and just treat everyone as gold until international resumes. I’ll get lifetime gold next year so will probably let WP slide. Shame, I will miss the FLounge in SYD and LAX.

I think your SC earned with JQ with the bundle should rollover. Only the flight booked post 23 nov to trigger the rollover offer should not be on JQ domestic.

But yea, March members have much less time to accrue rollover sc, than say Decembers, plus probably no, or limited options to fly internationaly prior 31 March 2021.

Correct. All SC earned from flying on QF, JQ or partners can be rolled over.
