Book a flight and Extend Current status to 2022

I don't think even Qantas will have decided yet, but I'm sure they will do something nearer the time.
I must admit I did laugh to myself when I saw this. When I said nearer the time I didn't mean two days nearer the time. I really hadn't expected Qantas to do anything before January.

Unfortunately as I'm based overseas I won't be able to benefit, but I'm really pleased for all the QFF status holders in Aus and NZ who are eligible as this is a relatively easy way to extend status.

I had hoped they would restart the status credit support but that obviously won't be happening.

If you have an Australian address you could try changing your status to there, and then just booking a reward flight domestically that you don't intend to take. Under the T&Cs it seems like that would be valid

Or hope that QF cancels the flight...

So I'm curious what happens if you book say a classic flight reward and then don't actually take the trip. You've paid for the fare (which satisfies the requirements) and you haven't cancelled. Does that mean you can renew just for 8000 points + $50? For WP and P1 that doesn't sound like a bad deal

You're better off booking a classic reward on a route which will almost certainly get cancelled.

Hm. I have a bunch of vouchers, both unused gift vouchers (purchased during the DSC offer pre-Covid) and travel credits due to flights cancelled because of Covid. But I assume that in order to get the membership year extension I'd have to make an entirely new booking?
If I have already made a booking before 23 November 2020, will it still contribute towards the one booking condition?
No. The booking creation date must be on or after 23 November 2020 and before your status end date as per the table below.

I thought if you used flight credit (ie origibal booking pre-Covid) that it’s ok

That's correct.

How can I pay for the new booking?
Eligible bookings can be paid with cash, Qantas TravelPass, Qantas Flight Credit, Qantas Gift cards or with Qantas Points (via a Classic Flight Reward or Points Plus Pay). Bookings can be made directly with Qantas or through a third party such as your preferred travel agent.

ah yes I stand corrected. the wording is very clear. Seems strange that they would not require flight to be taken before the membership year end (but then again if you're end March or April that would be much more challenging than someone end of November). Just seems to be people could book the flight, get the status extended, then cancel it. Though frankly I think anyone gaming this crazy easy promot well.. I won't go further with the thought but I'm not a fan :)

Nothing for me in this Status Extension offer. WP ending 31/1/2021. Extended to 31/1/2022 with a 600 Status Credit Boost in February 2021 to head start me on 2023 status.

A very good move by Qantas. Much appreciated. But I'm not sure if I understand ...

Just to see if I got this right :

1. My QF anniversary is 31 Dec every-year

2. I became QF Platinum by Dec 2019

3. Just before CoVID struck, I earned 450 SC

4. Due to QF Status help, I thought I will be able to retain QF Platinum until 31 Dec 2021 and I get 600 SC credited to my QF account

4. Now, if I book & travel on a QF flight between 23/11/2020 and 31/12/2021 - I get to retain my QF Platinum until 31 Dec 2021, which I thought I was retaining anyways due to earlier offering from QF ...

5. The SC earned in that "one flight" (assuming SYD-MEL return, so 20 SC) will be carried over to the membership year beginning 01 Jan 2022, along with the 500 SC as gift from QF, making my starting tally by 01 Jan 2022 as 500+20 = 520 SC

Is this correct?

So your membership year was extended from expiring in 2020 to 2021 under the original extension. This one now extends you to 2022. With the SCs being carried over only being 20 (as there are no future SC bonuses apart from the ones given for the 20-21 membership year).

Just read from Executive Traveller that overseas residents are going to get an extra 12 months free without having to fly, so you guys have it easier than us!

Ade you are (currently) in the most fortunate position of any QFF member (plus all the other December "babies") - yes book / travel at least one flight and boom. WP till Dec, 2022.

Pleased they are including JQ domestic flights in NZ. Getting the 2700 QF SCs for P1 requal was looking challenging given not in Australia and no sign of proper bubble trans-Tasman (or anywhere with NZ).

Unfortunately I booked a bunch of JQ domestic flights in NZ. Not sure if I want to risk relying on cancelling (I purchased the bundle) and rebooking using the credit being treated as a new booking for the purpose of 1 new booking to requalify for another year. A shame because the rollover SCs would have also been good to get a head start on requalification for 2022.
