The ABC is reporting that following a review of risk profiles by the Department of Home Affairs, the requirements for passenger screening at a number of Australian regional airports are changing. According to the report, overt security screening will no longer be required at 8 airports including LRE, BCI and CNJ. Measures will be increased at 13 other ports not identified in the article.

I couldn’t find further details after a quick search of the Home Affairs webpage but presumably some increased costs will be passed on to pax at some regional ports...and reductions passed on at others (?)
Passengers will be able to fly without security screening at some regional airports in Australia
Passengers departing some regional airports no longer need to go through security screening, under new Federal Government rules to be rolled out across the nation by Christmas.
