Some opinions suggest DJ aircraft delivery should be pushed back and that the route is no where near as attractive as it was when DJ planned to launch. But it doesn't really take into account that they could re-allocate the metal to other new international routes if US doesn't works so well...

Price war tipped as V Australia prepares for launch

VIRGIN Blue will launch its trans-Pacific offshoot V Australia this week amid stiff competition and turbulent times for international airlines.
The gambit is seen by industry sources as make-or-break for Virgin chief executive Brett Godfrey.
Virgin Blue is a valued at $329 million on the share market, yet its new fleet of seven Boeing 777s will cost at least $1.5 billion, reports The Herlad Sun.
A global aviation specialist told BusinessDaily that Mr Godfrey faced "the brutal reality" of the times.

If they are looking at re-allocating fleet then 2-3 services a week to HNL could be a viable option.

JQ have just cut back a few services per week, and QF only do 3...

Or fly direct to LAS which has been mentioned in the past, however the International terminal at McCarren is a joke (bypassing LAX & SFO is a good option IMO)

Aah if it goes pear shaped there's always runs from SYD/MEL->PER under the DJ banner ;)

Whilst not to detract from the difficulties faced by VA, I did pick up a comment in the article "....when Qantas is flooding the Pacific with extra seats on its A380 super jumbos..," Am I missing something? With 5 A380 services across the pacific that is equivalent to approximately an extra 1.5 744's per week. Given that there are 39 QF flights a week across the week (and before they started using A380's there were at least this many if not more flights) it would be a stretch to say this is "flooding the Pacific".

Now there is a good idea! Don't get my hopes up ;)

Don't let facts get in the way of a good story!
