Qantas have been sending these out today for some reason. You should be able to cancel and unless flight was cancelled by Qantas first, just have 6000 points deducted. If you don't want the penalty then you can take the voucher.I have just received the attached email from Qantas. It asks if I wish to get a refund, minus canx fees OR get a credit until Dec 2021. My dilemma is that I used points for this booking?? Be grateful for any thoughts please?
Like I said in the Qantas thread we received two today. For flights I had cancelled for a refund almost a month ago. I have rung Qantas twice about them as initially they still appeared in MMB, then a points upgrade and points deduction occurred. So this made the fourth time we'd had contact about getting the refund. Clearly financial issues.I received one of these and a text today, thought it was spam at first.
Had to search through my many cancelled bookings to find out which one it related to. It was one that I had chosen to get a refund on and lose some fees. I guess Qantas wanted to double check whether they could keep my cash![]()
Did you opt for refund or credit please (re: points)?Like I said in the Qantas thread we received two today. For flights I had cancelled for a refund almost a month ago. If it's a points award and you opt for refund you'll get your points and any taxes back. To be honest I've never seen an award flight being offered as a voucher.Did you opt for refund or credit please (re: points)?
I opted for a refund on that booking as it was what I had originally asked for. I think I managed 6 or 7 bookings between myself and family. Mine are all credits as I intend to use them for future travel when this is all over and they were discount economy mostly. The family bookings went to refund as they were flex tickets that basically meant they had no cancellation fees, so why wouldn't youDid you opt for refund or credit please (re: points)?
Thanks, so are you saying that bookings with points have no cancellation fees, hence go for refund? I just thought that choosing credit would mean the points would be (re) credited??I opted for a refund on that booking as it was what I had originally asked for. If it's a classic award then you would need to pay the point cancellation fee of 6000 points per passenger (deducted from the total points used when refunded), however I was under the impression this was being waived right now. Taxes will be refunded in full. Perhaps this is only true in certain circumstances. I'd wait for someone else to confirm. Thanks, so are you saying that bookings with points have no cancellation fees, hence go for refund? I cancelled a SYD-MEL booking - points one way, paid the other. I was offered a voucher and went down that path. On cancellation it stated that I would receive a voucher for $xx_ valid to Feb 2021.If it's a classic award then you would need to pay the point cancellation fee of 6000 points per passenger (deducted from the total points used when refunded), however I was under the impression this was being waived right now. On the other hand, if you have booked a cash fare, paid in part with points or an any seat award, I have no idea.
Did you choose refund (on the email) please?I got the same email yesterday for a points + pay flight I cancelled on March 12th which was before they were offering vouchers, my understanding was that I would be slugged 6,000 QFF pp and returned taxes.
As they they have been busy and slow to process this I'm hoping I'll receive all points back. I guess time will tell.
Thanks for that. Don't think I/we are going to win either way!!I got the same email, I cancelled with a refund because it was half a return and both legs were cancelled by EK. Person on the phone said it was a mistake and how the previous agreement for me still applies, even though the email said that it would become a credit if I didn't do the form by the 30th!
Yes. Refund was the option I chose. Fingers crossed.Did you choose refund (on the email) please?
'Everything' crossed. Don't hold out much hope tho as was part way into a One World Award points booking. Will give it a go regardless. Thanks!!Yes. Refund was the option I chose. Fingers crossed.

What does "canx" mean? I don't think it is a word.
