I think I'm interpreting this right, my renewal is 31st December 2020, so does this mean I'll retain my current Platinum status to 31st December 2021?

Yes - I have the same renewal date... this works really well for me as it means no need to fly at all in 2020 and I'll still have WP for all of 2021. Even without this crisis I was unsure to whether I could renew WP so I'm considering this good news (as long as Qantas stays solvent). As the FAQ indicates, it's not as rosy for someone whose expiry dates are sooner, but they implied they would review the situation for those members again later.

I’m in a similar boat. I guess we find out in April when the extension get processed.

It’s a good decision. Now I have to go wait for Qantas to extend the cancellation period for travel after June

My renewal date is August 31 at the moment I was tracking to hit 945 SCs but with the premise there would be enough additional travel to take me to over the 1200 mark. Currently sitting on 625 I had a lot of travel booked following my AFL team around the country and made use of Feb's DSC offer to boost that earn.

Now with the demise of both the AFL season and Qantas's own network, I'm thankful I don't have to concern myself on renewing WP by September, when I have a massive RTW booked. My concern is now with respect to not just that itinerary but the likelihood of this virus still being rampant overseas.

The impact of this on our Global Economy means that RTW trips and attainment of LTG (which I was tracking to also by August) are of little consequence when considering the bigger picture.

Keep healthy everyone!!

Regards,

BD

observation:

they'll never be able to win with everyone.

If they did what VA is doing, or along those lines... people would be unhappy because "What's the point of giving us free SC's if we're not flying, and you're hardly flying any planes"? (which makes sense).

Or if they just extended status by 6 months... there would be gripes.

Or if they dropped the status earn requirements (like some hotels are doing) again.. well I'm not flying so it means I'll lose my status anyway....

Yes QF have gone OTT way too early and there are some "losers" in what they have done but goodness me.. some perspective?

this is a world crisis. You know you can live just fine with whatever status level you are WHENEVER you can get back flying and traveling. Isn't it more important that hopefully everyone will be with us when this clears and able to fly again and grumble about things like it was 2019?

Exactly!
One thing I’ve noticed reading this thread and the similar VA one is that no matter what the airlines offer there will always be people who want more. They could both other 5 year extensions and someone would still complain that it isn’t enough. Both airlines have no obligation to offer anything at all and have bigger things to worry about so I’m just thankful we got anything at all

Exact same situation. Anniversary date is 31 Dec 2020, currently WP. And my understanding is I will be WP till 31 Dec 2021, with zero flyin

I think the 31-Dec anniversary is quite common for those who've had QFF membership for sometime.

This. While originally I was hoping for this a few weeks ago, started to book with the DSC etc, but in the last week the priority for it has simply gone. I do appreciate the gesture but cant really see myself personally being able to use it much.

Couldn't agree more with you !! My thoughts exactly ... My opinion is, in times like what we are in now, let's look at the bright side of things - the airline is doing what it can to take care of it's customers - in a way they can .. an airline can offer a status extension, reduced earn requirements may be reduce reward points required for redemption ... in some way or any way they think they can make a difference and one should appreciate it ...

I shake my head at these people. The societal impact of Corona will go beyond job losses and I am sure I do not need to explain that further.

Sorry? Having paid my own money to requalify WP and I get nothing from this while others gloating they get another year WP sitting on Zero SCs....and I should count myself lucky? 😳

And those people who are "gloating" and sitting on zero SC's had zero intent to fly QF more probably anyway and so having another year of WP is irrelevant more or less.. unless they do decide to fly QF more (or credit to them anyway) in which case that's good for QF.

I get it. I am totally self funded too. Now I am one of the lucky ones (but definitely not gloating). I appreciate you are one of the disappointed ones

but honestly... aren't there slightly more important things going on in the world, and probably for your own personal life/family/friends than an airline status?

and again, QF have not closed the door on doing more for folks in this sort of situation.

I rest my case
What case? There is no case. The world is falling apart and an airline makes a blanket decision to extend everyone's status - obviously everyone has different SC balances at a point in time, and some people will be greatly helped by this, others a little bit, and some not at all.

Also, the term "inequality" is a bit too much, don't you think?

Older people not being able to get food from the supermarkets because fat bogans are hoarding everything = inequality
Hospitals not ventilating people because they are too old and they die = inequality

Quibbling over who benefits the most from a status extension that was granted to EVERYONE = let's put things in perspective.....

Also - who is gloating?? I see some people relieved/happy - but no gloating.
