LOL! That might be a bit much first up, but I've always said that Egypt is a good warmup for a trip to India so...+1 for deep end.
My 1st ever trip overseas was to Mumbai with the other half who had a work conference. Was a great introduction because I could go wander and explore all day on my own but there was a nice hotel to recover in each night.

Oh I agree - but my own thoughts are do Egypt first which is what we are going to do in September. Many years ago I did both in one trip - hitchhiked from Cairo to Calcutta - back in the days before the Middle East became the total mess that it is today.Pffft...
Egypt is sensational; India is incredible.
Two different, yet equally amazing, experiences.
Just jump in the deep end and enjoy!
Safe, English widely spoken, geared into overdrive for tourism - what more do you want?
Frankly, you have not lived until you have experienced both of those places...

Well two of the countries on that trip were Syria and Iran - need I say more...Hey, Levison Wood lookalike, why don't you run doing a repeat of that past the new SO...?![]()

Lots of options, but San Francisco is alwyas great. We stayed on Union Street, heaps of places to eat, drink and veg out. We had a car so spent time up in the Sonoma Valley and Russian River Valley - better than Napa I think. They don't camel rides thoughA week in the Napa Valley and San Francisco is what I’d do.
What are your interests?
LOL! That's probably about the only thing I didn't hitchhike on during the trip!Is your profile pic what you hitch hiked on?
Plenty of time between now and September to revise plans if needed. At the moment though we are going to Egypt for her first overseas trip - but I've told her that we are going to Bali^ I’d be less worried about “chancy meetings” and more worried about stuff/flights/airports being shut down &/or cancelled. This Corona thing has only just started up, and dodgily-implemented quarantines are only delaying it’s spread. With a vaccine a minimum 18 months away, the effects are just gonna get more effecty.

How young you were, Ralph, as was I in 1970; I was also in my early twenties when I had my first O/S trip, to NZ. No merchant banking and no gross stupidity. In those days there was no problem with short vowels: an A was an A, an E was an E and and an I was an I in both countries. No mention of budget @RSD
I didn't travel overseas until I was 21. First trips were to Fiji and Thailand. Great introductions to the world for me.
