Apart from airlines and in particular, long haul flights, a cruise ship is almost the perfect environment for the spread of any contagious condition given the closeness of passengers and crew for extended periods of time. But you will not get run over by a car on a ship. The price of having fun!

Is a cruise ship quarantine better than a Christmas Island quarantine?. Both are at sea. CS passengers are isolated in their cabins. I believe CI “passengers” have a bit more freedom?

Now a second cruise ship with a suspected Coronavirus breakout.

I wouldn’t be going within a hundred miles of a cruise ship at the moment.

That article is missing so much stuff.

From the article:

The couple said they've been in contact with other Australians on board and are unsure why no one has heard from the government about the outbreak or their potential quarantine on board.

"I wish they would get on to the job. They need to get us off this ship," she said.

The Japanese health minister actually did a press conference yesterday on this, that they are refusing these people to land.

The most interesting aspect and question, in my opinion is should an Australian go to anywhere in China?
Clearly the emphatic answer is no.

If the salmonella doesn’t get you, then the Coronavirus may. 😀

I’d take CI anytime. Following the videos posted by a Brit on Diamond, the people in an inside cabin have only now been able to access fresh air on deck but just for a short period of time. They are stuck in a small cabin with no windows - just a box. They showed a picture of a family with two teenagers in bunk beds. Food is basic. No alcohol. Smoking completely banned. No towels or sheets being replaced. The towel thing is an issue as there is no place to get them dry. No laundry to wash clothes.

Can't even imagine the horror...

Effectively China is sacrificing an entire province of maybe 50mil for the sake of the country. Within that province I would imagine health care is overwhelmed.
The downside of a mass lockdown is that the movement of goods/assistance slows down at that border.

I cruise quite a bit, and I would be beside myself if this happened to me in an inside cabin. We rarely take insides these days - once you’ve had a balcony it’s very hard to go back, but we have occcasionally considered an inside to make a long voyage more affordable. Poeople often say ‘ well really how long do you ever spend in your cabin so it’s not worth getting a balcony (wrong in our case, we are antisocial)?’ In this case, far too long. Never again, I will always bear this in mind when booking a cruise. And yes, the kennel cough is so common. We did a 59 day circle pacific a few years back and everyone had it.
Moreover, have you seen the photos of the food they are getting. My husband would certainly jump overboard. The food on Princess is pretty bad at the best of times, but we always eat ashore. Yea Gods, what a nightmare.

There is one photo of a family of four, two teenagers, all in bunk beds in an inside room. Cannot imagine the fugue. I know, I’d end up being arrested because I would go into a claustrophobic frenzy and panic. I am right now just thinking about it.

You know, many cruisers say when selecting their cabin - “you don’t spend long in the cabin anyway, just to dress and sleep”.

Hell yeah, I am going to China!!!

Good luck with that.
Now to August is an Aeon in an active pandemic timeline.

It's called live life on the edge! Only a few people died so far, like the whistle blower doctor in Wuhan:

How many people fly Indo flag carriers like Air Asia X? They live even more exciting lives!

OK, I have just been a loud mouth smartie pants 🤪

Go for it. .... but please don't tap the ABC for a whinge if / when you get stranded in the middle of nowhere and the Aus government hasn't offered to fly you out in a free private jet 🤣

Self insurance can liberating, but very expensive.
