Hi all, flying return to Europe on Thai in April/May originally on the flight home we had a 3 hour stop. Just got an email today saying the flight has been changed and its now a 26 hour stop! Wondering if anyone has any idea on what our options are? Could we hit the airline up for a hotel considering the inconvenience? Traveling with my wife and our toddler so this is going to be a pain. Unfortunately haven't been able to contact their offices as they are closed for the public holiday.

Cheers,
Leigh

We had a similar situation several years ago-we were travelling on a LifeMiles award. After a fair bit of "negotiation" I eventually got them to include a room at the Novotel BKK-I went through the Thai Syd office. I think I may have been lucky as there have been others who haven't been able to score a hotel room.
Starting point for me would be to ring Syd office tomorrow to begin negotiations or get your agent to do so if you have used one

Where are you flying from in Europe? many Thai flights are daily, so I wonder if your 26 hour stop could be reduced to 2 hours? You can certainly ask TG what assistance they are willing to offer, for example hotel. Or you could also ask for a re-route from another European destination, or via another European destination, to meet up with your original times back to Australia.

Thankfully with Bangkok, if TG isn't willing to come to the party, it's cheap to get a hotel.

We are flying back from Frankfurt, yeah i will look into flying out of there a day later if we can negotiate it. We would rather spend an additional day over there than have the stop over. I find stopovers when flying with young kids just extends the pain sometimes 😅. Worst case if they don't come to the party with that option or a hotel I will be trying to find something close to the airport for the night. Thanks RB and MEL_Traveller

new flights are computer generated. If this is a TG issued ticket they are pretty good at transferring you to a better connection. (If this is an award issued through another airline it can get more difficult.)

Ah thanks, it is a TG issued ticket and i just confirmed that there is a flight a day later out of Frankfurt that would take us back to a 2 hour stop. Will give them a call tomorrow and try get switched, I'm sure my wife wont be devastated that we have to find something to do for an extra day in Europe :)

Managed to get onto the Sydney Thai office after the Melbourne office's phones seemed to not be working. Changed our flight ex Frankfurt to a day later which moves us back to a nice short stop. Talking to the agent on the phone it sounds like they have been slammed today due to Thai stopping daily BKK to MEL flights. Thanks for your assistance.

Cheers,
Leigh

oh dear! they have??? :(

Sorry, that is what the agent said but upon checking it looks like they are cutting 3 services a week. They still have a daily flight arriving 12:05PM. They have cut the second service arriving 8PM on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday. Not sure when this takes effect from exactly.

So the 8am services departing BKK. I've been on that a couple times, awful time to have to get to the airport. But two full meal services compared to a 'snack' and breakfast on the red eye.

Could that be one of the reasons that Thai no longer have many award seats?????? They use to be very generous and now it is like trying to find hens teeth

The current restriction on availability is something more than that - it started before the recent devaluation of TG's miles program.

At the moment, for MEL/SYD at least, it looks like they are only releasing availability 3 months before departure (give or take).
