The quick stop that B789 VH-ZND (QF7008 ex AKL to QF6020 to BNE) had tonight in Sydney (see the Qantas cancellations/delays thread) may mean poor (or no) cleaning of the aircraft. This might subsequently occur in a rushed fashion prior to delayed QF55's departure from BNE for LAX on hopefully late 25 January night.

coughroaches and the like are efficient at finding crumbs and other food.

Despite numerous flights including many in tropical nations, I can't recall ever having seen a coughroach, ant or spider on a plane. Yet cleaners and others leave doors open, and presumably insects will climb 'barriers' if they know food awaits.

Have you seen these creatures at 47K or iA?

Aircraft are protected by the 'Disinsection' process required for them to be able to service Australia and NZ. Schedule of Aircraft Disinsection Procedures for Flights into Australia and New Zealand - Department of Agriculture

At least one of the substances used - permethrin - is effective against coughroaches as well as mosquitoes.

This only applies to international aircraft. For a domestic aircraft to be disinsected requires a bit more than just a ’spray’.

Unless it’s part of the routine maintenance at the time, it can’t be sprayed then cleared to line straight away.

I have found birds and roaches in the cabin, and moths up front.
