Fiji Airways services operated by Malindo

mate just flew to Fiji, supposedly on a FJ aircraft codeshared with QF only to find it was a Malindo air 738.

He bid for an upgrade & got it, but said it was a waste of money, as the flight attendant went to sleep & did SFA, ie no service. It was a daytime flight.

He got the seat! A very generous recliner with 45 inch pitch. Was it full service with champagne etc? And was the crew Malindo or FJ?

Malindo crew & they got no service as flight attendant LITERALLY went to sleep (maybe she was overworked ?)

This is consistent with my one and only experience flying business on OD HKT-KUL-PER.
Almost no service.
The wine - one bottle each of red and white - had obviously been opened on a previous flight and was vinegar.
Awful.

I find it very difficult to believe that there was only one flight attendant on board and they slept for the entire flight. Perhaps that particular FA was on a rostered break? There are no crew rest facilities on a 737-800, so it makes sense they would use a business class seat.

FJ have had to lease a Malindo Air aircraft due to the 737 MAX grounding.

I’m not doubting the FA could be asleep. Same thing happened on my very early Oman Air flight out of Manila... there were only 2 pax so not much work for the FAs. They both went to sleep in their crew seats for several hours.

Exactly. Why wouldn’t you just do this if you wanted something? The request can’t have been too important if the PAX just sat there pressing the call bell.

He complained to service at FJ, but heard nothing back, which made things worse

Parents just did this flight (unscheduled, due to health issues). In economy, no complaints. I thought it was an error when flightradar kept bringing up a Malindo aircraft on an FJ flight.
