DELTA AIR LINES

DELTA AIR LINES
INTERNATIONAL LONG HAUL FLIGHTS

Platinum and Gold Velocity members booked on Freedom, Premium or Premium Saver fares can request an upgrade to Premium Economy or Business Class on flights between Los Angeles and Sydney operated by Delta Air Lines with a VA flight number.

Seems it uses reward inventory to upgrade your revenue fare, as award availability must be available. Points and Status Credits are earned on the original fare class purchased.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Wow, I'm actually impressed. Obviously quite limited with the upgrades only available on VA flight numbers but still very welcome. 👍

20k points to upgrade from discount Econ to Delta One on LAX-JFK is also great value. Of course availability will be very stingy as expected by Delta on a premium route like that.

i tried today as want to upgrade the delta (va code) leg jfk - la on 24th dec any tips on getting seats rang soon as i got the email to be told there is no availability

Pretty sought after route I’d imagine

Check the VA website and Expert Flyer. Every day.

Hope it works out for you. That's a long leg in economy. But I am super jealous that you are going to NY on Christmas Eve!

I have a flight from LAX-SFO , booked in Main Cabin ( N ) class , VA marketed flight operated by Delta. How do I request upgrade as I get the message this booking is not eligible for upgrade when I try to do it online.

Any tips/points are highly appreciated.

its all seems very hard...after calling the new team they have dedicated to delta upgrades, you cant see upgrades of any sort online as delta upgrades showing do not mean that virgin have upgrades available it is all apparently seperate. only way you can actually check and get the upgrade is to keep on calling, nothing will show as available online according to the person i spoke to today....

The website suggested it was tied to award availability, so if you can see an award online then you should be able to upgrade? That's what I took away from it at least.

award as in able to buy a seats with points only? apparently a reward seat is different from an upgradable seat...im still very new at this but that was how it was explained to me

Yeah that's what I understood from the read of the webpage in the OP. I can easily be wrong...

Had no trying to upgrade two of my upcoming delta flights on 10th and 28th Dec. Have been advised there is currently no availability for upgrade.

Were reward seats showing for these flights on the VA website?

Not sure about the poster above but I have yet to find one available upgrade showing on any date in the future for the JFK to Los Angeles portion of the flight back to Australia

Unfortunately , I have skipped checking that part as it makes sense to first check reward availability before asking for upgrade.

Also my travel is in 4 days so chances were almost nil to be successful.

The reason I asked is that the upgrade availability is supposed to come from exactly the same bucket as reward seat availability.
