I emailed InsureandGo (as I always want things in writing), to ask about having to come back on a different flight when the original flight was booked on points.
Here's the response:

"Important Information Please note: This section does not apply if you have InsureandGo Travel Insurance Bare Essentials cover and you may be entitled to claim under Sections A or D, but you may not claim under more than one of these sections for the same event. Where an airline ticket was purchased using frequent flyer or similar air points, we will pay you the frequent flyer or similar air points lost following cancellation of your air ticket. The amount payable will be calculated as follows: (i) If the airline will not refund your points, we will pay you the cost of equivalent class air ticket based on the quoted retail price at the time the ticket was issued. (ii) If the airline will only refund a portion of your points, we will pay you the cost of the equivalent class air ticket based on the quoted retail price at the time the ticket was issued, less the value of the portion of your points refunded back to you. "

OK, peeps, here's a good one for you.

Next year I'm going to Chad, with some time in France and Spain before  (- and after 😁).

Next week I turn 70 o_O.

I've been using Columbus Direct for TI in recent times. I've never made a claim on any insurance company, so I can't say had good they are. But their pricing has been wayyy better than TID, which I did use in the past.

Anyway, after my experience described in Post #69 (now that IS funny... :p), I tried Columbus Direct. They don't even list Chad in their countries . Must have failed geography in school...:p

I then tried Cover-More as I had the tip from the UK operator of my Chad trip that they would do the job for Australians. Sure enough - all sweet :).

But here's the age 70 kicker.

I put in current age. Six and a half week trip; three weeks in Chad. Price $455 - or $530 including Crisis Assistance Plus. I thought that addition to bring in the cavalry was pretty good value :p.

I dummied in current age as 70. Price $856 o_Oo_Oo_O:mad::mad::mad: - or or $931 for the cavalry backup (really good to know that the cavalry doesn't attract a further premium for >70 ).

Needless to say, I hit the 'buy' button rather than waiting one week for my cognitive and physical state to collapse 😁.

This sudden threshold at age 70 is p!ssing me off - BIG TIME.:mad::mad:

As an aside, I have just copped another example of age 70 being the threshold of complete bodily breakdown. In early December I am going on a voyage to the Southern Ocean with the company that I went to the Arctic Ocean with just in July. Because I turn 70 before the next voyage, they are insisting I get a certification from my GP that I'm fit to climb gangways and that I don't have any infirmity or disability, and what medication I'm on (apparently me answering 'none' doesn't count ).

WTF! - a couple of months ago I was bounding up and down gangways in front of you! I'm furious that no amount of logic is acceptable. The big black line is drawn; no discussion will be entered into.:mad::mad:

To top it off, the email telling me that I must get the medical form done came when I was mid-way through a 4 km run on the beach and before an hour body-surfing in some PERfect waves on Tuesday.

Gaaaaaaahhhhhh... :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::mad::mad::mad:.

Listen up old fella you are a much riskier proposition once you hit 70!

They must breed tough botanists in WA !
Professor David Goodall played tennis till he was 90, and this photo was apparently taken when he was 102 years old and about to take a ride in a gyrocopter in the Kimberley.

You have 30 more years to go yet @JohnM ! 👍D7183DE2-F4B2-44EB-90E4-136577E3FCD2.jpeg

Contrary to a vicious rumour started by a particularly evil AFF member :p, I am not a botanist .

However, David did work for a time in the organisation where I worked and maintained links there after he departed. He did move around research organisations quite a lot. He was periodically still seen rummaging around in our library well into his 90's. He lived not far from me, as I sometimes saw him catching my bus into the city - about the time the controversy about his honorary fellowship at ECU was raging.

Following a brutal sudden metamorphosis at midnight brought about by vicious travel insurance companies’ gross misuse and radically-flawed deployment of CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing technology , the new instantaneously-evolved cough decrepitus today crawled from the primordial slime - and managed to take on two of the great pleasures that Mother Nature has to offer...
