SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

That's not good to hear, which flight was this? Was it to MEL?
Yeah SIN-MEL midnight departure. She was sound asleep on boarding (security were great, left her in the pram and made sure they didnt wake her when they checked it out), but trying to get comfy in the seat while holding her was difficult.

bc sorry to hear about the problem but if J Cabin Crew won’t assist in re-seating pax in bassinet seats who have no reqt for bassinet then you need seek out IFM - this is just not acceptable.
Good to know for future, thanks. It was late and I was a bit over it so we just made do. The crew were otherwise very good with her, though my request for an extra pillow for her was also lost.

1 request 2 request 3 request - never stop til you get it - I am still staggered you say J Cabin Crew didn’t seem so keen to facilitate seat swap - they are ALL acutely aware of bassinet seat rules.

These probs need addressing onboard - no point complaining post flt - but bc you still need send feedback to SQ as the J Cabin Crew will get a little refresher course which they clearly deserve - [email protected].

Has SQ26 F rewards always been advantage only. I seem to recalling seeing Saver allocation a while back however I may be confused. At this stage we are looking to go to the PWM next year. The flights are all rewards and will be a combination of *A x1 and OW x2, I am looking to arrive in the US at a single location with a similar arrival time then head to PWM. At this stage the front runners are JFK or ORD.

The options consider are:

OW (no need for discussion here)
SYD-HND-JFK (arrival 10:35)
MEL-NRT-ORD (arrival 08:35)

*A
MEL(SYD)-SIN-HND-JFK (arrival 10:15) includes NH F
MEL(SYD)-SIN-HND-ORD (arrival 08:30) includes NH F
MEL(SYD)-SIN-JFK (SQ26) (arrival 11:10)

Using SQ26 167K miles are required, if I use the SQ and NH combination the miles required jumps to around 275K miles. I value SQ miles so saving 100K miles is an attractive proposition. Does anyone have experience in SQ26 F saver wait list clearance.

I booked SQ26 (on top of SQ222), all in R, in July this year, for travel in July 2020. Here's my findings which may help you:
  1. SQ26 has R Saver available only on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
  2. For popular/peak dates/periods, you have to pounce at moment/day of release
  3. Only 2 R Savers are released per flight
  4. If 2 pax are booking, beginning in MEL is not usually possible if there's no A380 - as 2 F Savers on a 777-300ER with only 4 F seats is a hard proposition (I'm based in MEL and found this to be an issue)
  5. If starting from MEL fails, book via SYD (SQ222 is a great option as it's a daytime flight).
I've heard that SQ25 is even harder to obtain, however I'm flying out of the West Coast (LAX) so didn't even attempt booking SQ25.

I hope this helps!

I have WL SQ26 x 3 times over the past 3 years and it has never cleared for me, I always have a confirmed flight date too.
I did recently check availability on a similar route (for CE) at post 7035 here. He only wanted to get to FRA but wasn't suitable for him :
CBR - SIN - FRA - JFK available Saver 01 Sept - can you split it up?
EDIT, no MEL - FRA n/a.
Nor, CBR - FRA n/a.

I don't know what the "PWM" is so don't know yr req'd dates.

PWM Portland International Jetport, Maine.

My main goal is for +1 and daughter (OW) and I to arrive at the same location in the US then meet up and head to Portland. I always suspected that finding x3 rewards J or F may be problematic and options would be limited. All the points/ miles are spread across my accounts.

If I put the girls in J a QF/JL combination into JFK the QF Points required - 328K
If I put the girls in J a JL/JL combination into ORD the QF Points required is - 278K

If I put myself into F on a SQ/NH combination into JFK or ORD the SQ miles required - 275K
If I put myself into F on SQ 26 the SQ miles required - 167K (saver) 295K (advantage)

Which ever option I choose what I loose on the swings I pick up on the round-about. Travel will commence 16/9/20 so the JL flights will start to be released shortly with SQ and NH a few days behind. It is more the girls I am concerned about. I am happy to blow the extra QF points to get them to JFK, however if the SQ26 is not available or does not clear then I will still be up for the 275K miles with SQ/NH. These are truly first world problems.

I'd put yourself on the SQ26 F at the moment it comes up, it may be available as long as it's maybe Mon, Tues, Wed. The rest of that is too complicated for me as it's not my conundrum. 😁

100% agreed. Redeeming 2 x R Savers on SQ26 has long been a dream redemption of mine, ever since starting point collecting. When the day arrived and it was time to make the redemption, the initial search for MEL-SIN-(FRA)-JFK turned up with no R Saver availability (this was of course due to the MEL-SIN segment being all A350 or 777-300ER. SQ218 is typically an A380 only during the peak Christmas time).
Re-did the search beginning from SYD, and couldn't believe that 2 R Savers were there waiting to be booked.
Getting that ticket confirmation email was one of the most awaited and exciting moments I've had!

Travelling out of SYD is not an issue and I will put the blame on this whole conundrum squarely against MrsM. The original plan was to put +1 and daughter on SQ AU to the UK/ EU rtn and I would fly OW, I had that all sorted and was just waiting for the booking day. Then she changed her mind and decided on US and CA.

Either way and what ever option I go with I am going to take a bath on flight changes or cancellations at some point. JL release first and HND-JFK JL6 goes pretty quickly so I may need to lock that away, I may also need to book JL MEL-NRT-ORD on the same day as this may disappear as well, Then a few days to a week later QF and SQ and NH will all open up and reading the above advice SQ26 is likely to go fast.

I did consider trying for a *A RTW but it would appear that I can only do this once all flights are released, and I suspect that there will be no SQ26 rewards available weeks after our proposed start start. If SQ would just let me add segments as they are released that would be a much better use of points.

Guaranteed buggy ride has never been part of SQ R / F offering - you need to ask - or staff will notice your lack of mobility and offer
I rode the buggy once, a couple of years ago.
I wasn't intending to as I try to walk as much as possible to stay healthy, but the plane to LHR was delayed for over an hour - and I was advised as such by TPR staff.
They kept me fed & watered* and gave me updates every 15 minutes or so.
When they said it was time to go I got downstairs and there was a buggy waiting for me, which got me to the gate just as security was scanning the last handful of passengers - with a dedicated scanner for VIPs which had no queue at all.
I noticed most of the seats in the gate waiting pen had empty/mostly empty (identical) food & drink containers on them, so it looks like all passengers were taken care of by SQ while waiting for the plane.

*not that I'm suggesting the champagne I was served resembled water in any way 😆

And, it's great being able to spend a long time looking forward to it. You just know that the suites and everything else is going to be so good. I blame CE for waking me up to this some years ago.

Indeed! The countdown is on to July 2020, haven't even thought about accommodation or what to do in between JFK and LAX while we're there. Looking forward to the flights has masked the other obligations I need to attend to for the trip 😂

Don't quote me on this but I think the NH release is about 3 months out if booked thru SQ not 12 months
Looking EF and then calling SQ NH can be booked a day after SQ release their reward seats. NH are just one day behind the SQ release window.

Oh tks mate - from the minute you sat beside me at OT the other night and we started chatting I knew you were going to be trouble!!!

J/K mate

Yep if bday / honeymoon / anniversary preadvised to SQ they will provide cake and make as big a deal as possible - within limits obviously.

If not preadvised and crew become aware onboard YES they will still endeavor to rustle around and hunt up a cake or a desert to make it look like a cake and again make the event as ‘special’ as they can.

This applies to ALL cabins not just R/F/J

Any wonder I love SQ?

time to put this into action!
just found out my younger sis & her BF who went to LHR for a holiday, are now engaged.
thought as they are flying SQ on the return, I could organise a cake onboard for their return journey.

so should I email krisflyer services (i booked her ticket with my points so have all the details)?

Many moons ago we flew SQ on our honeymoon. Somehow SQ found out about it and a cake appeared!! (Cabin class Y)
