Gin!

And which one did you choose and how was it - not a fan of Opihr and certainly don't like the elderflower tonic water

We like Monkeys ... liked it, so we backed up with another one :)

So just bought this superb Cape Town Gin last night - it is absolutely amazing.
Such a Smooth and creamy flavour, very reminiscent of four pillars, but at a far cheaper price- 349 Rand (aka $35 AUD!!!!).

It’s fair to say the duty free allowance will be fully utilised on the way back to Australia:)

Continuing on my current trip to Cape Town, and of our perchant to quality Gin, I was amazed to learn that South Africa is presently home to 127 gin distilleries.
Which got me thinking just how sophisticated South Africa has become in crafting some amazing Gin.
If your in Cape Town anytime soon- I cannot recommend the Woodstock gin distillery enough.
Woodstock produce ,beautifully hand batched Gins, that sure to please any palate.
The gin produced here is bespoke, elegant and cosmopolitan.
And again picking up a bottle (750 ml) for under $35 AUD (340 rand) for gin I’m used to paying approx $90 - $100 AUD of a similiar standard- is absolute bliss.

Looking at places to stay for our trip in May2020 for the Chelsea flower show and came upon this site which is good for boutique accommodation and restaurants but had this guide for gin distilleries in the UK.may be of interest to some.

Apologies, I should have posted this last weekend- but I had the chance to visit a Gin Market at Craft & Co, in Smith Street Brunswick last weekend.
This event is held twice per year apparently, with numerous bespoke gin distilleries represented where you can sample ( and by the means of sample I’m talking about unlimited samples providing you don’t fall foul of RSA regulations). The gins produced from many small scale distilleries, almost all were from Australia, with just one imported Gin being represented- Irish Gunpowder Gin.

What I found fascinating at just how many bespoke Australian Gin distilleries are “up and coming” and potentially how big the sector could become. Many products are undoubtedly world class and in trend brands such as Archie Rose & Four Pillars are likely to have a goodrun for their money in the positioning in the market.

Tickets were $10 to enter- but let me tell you - the samples I consumed probably mounted to be at least $50 in value, and you also receive $5 off any purchase.
Strangely enough, SWMBO and myself used our $5 off two bottles of Brookies Macadamia liqueur ( which is decadent and nutty in flavour BTW) although if we hadn’t stocked up on so much gin from South Africa recently we would have bought more.
Some real highlights was Brookies ( from Byron Bay), Larrikin ( from Ballarat) and Blind Tiger ( from South Australia) .
I will definitely be at the next Gin market at Craft & Co. :)177547177548177549177550177551

Was it very crowded? I’ve been to some where it was impossible to get a taste. I’m going to subscribe so I find out about the next one

Busy- yes, crowded - not too bad.
However, we went to the first 2 hour session at 10am on Saturday- and apparently this was the only session over the course of the weekend that was not sold out. So possibly we did benefit from a few less people and subsequently got through to sample more gin, than say someone that attends a later session.
Also, another benefit of attending an earlier session, is that we bought 2 out of the last three bottles of Brookies Macadamia Liquer ( it’s out of production) so we would have had no chance of making the same purchase at a later session.
So it goes without saying the earlier session did have its advantages, despite being a wee bit tipsy by mid-day. :p

Been too long for this thread..

Picked up a bottle of the new Tanqueray Sevilla.
Essentially a blood orange flavoured gin.

If you like an Aperol Spritz, try this.

Prohibition gin company in Adelaide. My favourite was the Bathtub cut gin and then I had the Fig gin which was excellent (unlike how I felt the next morning)

Some strong stuff there VPS.

Yes Ink is decent.. a little too sweet/floral for my taste. And the colour change is pretty cool.

Very rural there Major.
