Hi everyone. I am hoping to get award bookings for two of us in J from Montreal back to Sydney or Canberra in September 2020. I've been checking dates before my actual date, and notice that Royal Jordanian comes up with award flights from Montreal to Doha via Amman with good connections. I could then hopefully get QR from Doha home. Does anyone have experience flying with Royal Jordanian in J? The reviews I've read have been mostly negative.

Royal Jordanian, in my fairly limited experience, is neither here nor there. It's never going to win any awards, save for best Jordanian national carrier. If you can't get a seat on QR or AY, then a J seat on RJ certainly isn't the end of the world. Service is fine but nothing like what you'd get on QR or CX, for example. In all, I'd be happy to take it if there were no other choices.

Agree with danger - not up there with QR/EK, but better than any LCC or mediocre European or American carrier.

This is my experience too.

Had a sample of RJ earlier in the year KUL-BKK return on the 787 in J (was under $500 return)
Even though the flight was only a tad over 2 hours I found the seating pretty comfortable and the service really good. Food wasn’t as high of a standard as other carriers but I’m thinking it’s probably better on the longer flight from BKK-AMM. Couldn’t really fault it all and Mrs Jase even commented that it was a good introduction to RJ and she would have no hesitation flying with them again

The reviews I've read have been mostly negative.

What does 'reviews mostly negative' mean compared to 'what do you want from business class?

If you want a full flat bed most carriers are offering new/newish products these days. If you want the experience of a lifetime with all the bells and whistles, RJ isn't going to be the carrier of choice.

I like them, flew countless times with them between BKK and HKG and vv. I would put them on par with say AA or UA business class.

thanks everyone for the feedback. I got the impression that RJ was OK but not up there with the best and your comments seem to support that. MEL_Traveller I saw comments such as "worst airline ever" and "kids sleeping on the floor" and "service not their priority" so got a bit worried. I think most of those comments related to Y travel. A flat bed would be good for an 11 hour flight and the food and service are important to me as well. I'd really prefer to get QR back from Montreal if I can. I'm feeling from the feedback that I'd put RJ in the same category as your AA and UA or perhaps Air Canada. In all honesty apart from the hardware, the success of the flight for me really comes back to how you are feeling and the crew you get. I will post to let everyone know how I get on with our return flights from Montreal ASAP

Dunno. From the reviews I've read I'd probably put Air Canadia below AA and UA.

The HKG-BKK and vv tag flights used to be good fun. A handful of pax. A quick hot meal that was always fresh. Depending on the crew you'd sometimes score a Bvulgari amenity kit and the gift they reserved for long haul pax. And chilled demi-bottles of Moet. That would all be wrapped up in an hour and your have a snooze for the remainder of the flight. you really couldn't complain.

we've done a few PE flights on Air Canada from Vancouver to Sydney and vice versa. Found them OK but nothing special. However they have good direct flights from Oz and may be a better way for us to come home from MOntreal if we can't get award flights on QF points and have to pay.

The thing I liked about RJ was when at a remote stand they had a separate bus for J pax.
thanks drron. I'm hoping to snag a return from Montreal to Sydney on QR even if we have to pay for some of it. The one way flight prices I'm seeing in J are extortionate. I can buy QR from Montreal to Bangkok for around AUD5500 for two of us, but if I extend that to Sydney the quote is over AUD$15,000 for two. Shows show we get ripped off for flights in Oz. So many options but a nice first world problem to have. Reason for the travel is we are doing a Viking cruise from Bergen to Montreal and I'm waiting for Viking to suggest some flight prices and a routing, but have also booked the outbound flights to Oslo in points on QR.

I wonder if the lesser reviews were more to do with their short haul J? I've only ever flow RJ J between TLV - AMM and AMM - DOH. Horrible food and disinterested cabin crew. The pre-departure coffee was great though. From everything I've heard, the long haul J is much better.

AMM is a pleasant enough airport to transit through too.

We did BKK-AMM in J.But I can't comment on crew or food as the last thing I remember is wheels up in BKK and the next was the Captain announcing the descent into AMM.So I guess the seat was very comfortable.

I'd endorse the above thoughts. I flew HKG-BKK-AMM-CDG return in April, all bar one leg on the RJ787. The seating and general ambiance was excellent, the crew attentive. Food was pretty good though not up to QF/SQ/CX standard, the drinks selection quite limited but acceptable. For what I paid I thought that it was excellent value, and I also appreciated the QFF SCs.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Flew RJ 2 sectors a few years ago. Athens to Amman/Amman to Abu Dhabi in J using awards. 1st leg aircraft was Embraer 175 white leather seats in J but torn leather/scuffed and had seen better days. Worst part was there is no alcohol served on that flight (short flights - under 2 hours I think ?) so a waste of points. Next sector A320 and alcohol flowed. I would not choose to fly then in a hurry again as redemption.

Thanks again to everyone for all the feedback. I guess I would now be happy to fly RJ but on the next trip we managed to make other arrangements. However I noticed there was lots of availability in J on RJ when I was checking for Montreal to Doha.
