Ridiculous waste of resources.
Maybe, however what happens if there was rabies and the patient got infected?. Patient could easily say "why didn't you tell me about the possibility of catching rabies"... Hindsight is 20/20

Remember that the incubation period - the period between exposure and display of symptoms/signs can be many months for Rabies....

This is one reason why there are some countries with "suspected" rabies origin. Months after exposure no one can know for sure where it came from.

Is it even effective so long after the event? Like the shingles shot that has to be given within a couple of days; same with the stroke shot.

In Vet world animals get vaccinated every 2 years. In human world its about the same maybe longer - so not lifelong.
Also depends on the quality of the vaccine. AUS rabies vaccines are top quality.

Not according to my travel doctor. if you are unvaccinated, and infected, you need the first shot within a couple of days, or its death. Even if you are pre-vaccinated, you still need to start the follow-up course within 5-6 days.

i didn't quite follow what he was saying, but the doc mentioned something about 'vaccination memory' - if you had the course of rabies vaccine, even though it's effectiveness waned after a while, if you had one more, it sort of perked up?

Yes thats what vaccination does. Creates memory within the body's defence mechanisms. If another similar infection comes along, it can mount a more effective defence a lot quicker. The memory is often expressed by the body maintaining sentries (antibobies) which roam the bloodstream waiting for the next infection. In many cases the sentries dissapear over time, requiring a reminder (revaccination) every so often.

Problem with influenza is the constant mutation of the influenza virus, so the next exposure is to a slightly different virus so the sentries dont recognise it quick enough.

I have a final diagnosis from my Rheumatologist- severe drug induced Myopathy (I.e the Statins did it).

Neurologist is just carry on with low dose Aspirin and monitor blood pressure, as it was probably a spike in blood pressure that caused the stroke.

So now all I have to do is rebuild my body, one muscle and joint at a time. :). I just love my Physio - he is doing terrific things for my recovery. I can now get up from the floor without holding onto anything and today I managed to do up my bra at the back - painful but I could do it!

To get to this point has required

Brain MRI
Nerve conduction Test
Carotid ultrasound
Bone scan
1 day Holter
7 day Holter
Echo
shoulder xrays
Shoulder MRI
More blood tests than you can poke a stick at

Although the whole thing has been terrible for you, it's good to hear you have a proper diagnosis and that things are (slowly) improving.

This is no longer the standard protocol for vets - it’s 3 years except for kennel cough. Many dog owners I know don’t do 3 yearly anymore either and instead titre test to check levels before deciding to vaccinate.

I have not vaccinated my dog for about 10 years.

Went back to the doctor again today.

I think my doctor is out of answers for why I am still sick, he did prescribe some more Sudafed or equivalent for my head cold.

Maybe not really that sick but my nose was running like a tap, not sure why so much was coming out.

Suggested maybe I wasn’t fit enough.

Can you get more than 1 type of cold, drinking copious amounts of water probably why my nose was running, water was being turned into snot.

Allergy maybe?

Yes you can get more than 1 virus. And no it’s not because you overdid the water. The way viruses work is that they embed within the DNA of the cells or if an RNA virus - embeds within the RNA, causing encoding havoc- in the Nose causing it to excrete fluid.

Maybe you should get some swabs done to see what kind of virus it is.

Freaking cold in CBR and rain now.
Don't know if this is why some of my old bones are aching now or if there is some other underlying cause.
Shoulders and arms half way to the elbows have really ached last night and today.
Hardly slept last night as couldn't get comfortable sleeping on either side.
