Qantas A380 to Orlando (MCO) - one off only

I don’t think QF can. The other reason is because QF cannot sell tickets on the open market unless there is prior agreement with the relevant authorities for this route.

US/AU has open skies, so no issues on that front. Flying empty in one direction between MCO and LAX for this charter would come down to it not being practical to sell tickets to a one off flight only on those 2 dates in addtion to having the cabotage restrictions.

Qantas could probably give the MCO/LAX &/or LAX/MCO sectors away, effectively "FREE" for pax buying LAX/SYD, MEL or BNE fares. Sure beats paying another airline to carry their pax to LAX.

What if it's not an Australian group charter?
Who are the big Orlando based sports teams and are any of them coming out to Aus for an exhibition match? Some baseball team was playing exhibition games at the SCG a few years ago. Plenty of supporters for US sports teams.

Swimming championships?
Athletics?

Does not look like a charter to AU.
Looks like a charter to MCO, then empty ferry back to LAX and resume normal ops from LAX-SYD. Then normal ops SYD-LAX with ferry to MCO and charter back to LAX-SYD

Yep email now received. Woolworths/Lion King promo flight.

I still wonder what they do between legs for the A380 and/or if they do fly it back in between what they do selling those seats./ ferry empty etc.

The “non-usual” ops side I find fascinating.

I doubt that they'd be permitted to sell those seats, so it will most likely be a ferry.

Likely the cost is covered by the charter
I’m sure it is - what would be the approximate cost to fly an empty 380 return MCO-Aust-MCO? Not to mention the environmental impact (how many tons of CO2 is that??).

The airline seems happy to ferry the A380 across to the other side of the world for maintenance - recently Dresden. Plastic items are more important:)

I have a rule of thumb of 0.1kg per passenger per km. So maybe 175Tonnes per full A380 for the 3570km (approx).
Ferry would be a portion of that. Minor in the scheme of things
