A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Or similarly PER-SIN?

Sorry for the added question - which booking centre did you use please?

when i've searched starting from Singapore usually can only see BA....I already had Perth - Singapore - LHR in J with SQ but thought EY apartments would be nicer... (Had done it a few times before, when it was priced as only 1 award)

I always use the 02 sydney no. - this time ended in the Caribbean somewhere....very helpful operator at 4.10am their time

Hi - I am trying to book 2 Business Class from Tokyo to Perth using AA miles for April next year (2020). It only offers MH which is fine but KUL-PER is in economy. Is there a way to get different airlines to show ? such as CX or QF or even ANA.

You need to phone for CX but those seats are hard to come by. ANA is star alliance JL is oneworld
Thank - I got a bit mixed up about ANA. Anyway, checking Qantas website and CX seats are available for redemption (if using Qantas points), does that mean they will also be available for AA miles ?

In theory, yes. While there is never a guarantee that availability will match, for the major oneworld partners it should be available across all of them. A call to AA reservations will let you know.

I'm looking at splitting an upcoming trip to the mid-east to gain a decent stopover (+shower). I can't get the exact flights or routing I want on one through ticket and the overall points cost is the same hence the split.

If I multi-city the trip, will it all appear on one PNR/ticket?

I.e A-B-C, then in the same redemption C-D-E.

Sure. You’d need to do this via the call centre but they can combine multiple one way awards into a single ticket. As you say, you’ll be charged separately for each sector.

Thanks for that! Trying to do it on AA's website tends to break the process (website throws up an error) so may have to, however it would be $250 AUD cheaper for me to use a separate AA account to do the booking (as I don't have to shuffle points around).

There's 5 hours between the BA flight into SIN and my intended follow on flight out of SIN. Unsure if I really want to take the gamble with separate tickets and having to collect baggage etc and check-in again with a separate ticket. Any thoughts?

SIN is a very efficient airport so if there’s a place to take the risk, that would be it.
Depending on the airlines you may be able to get them to check through the luggage at check in, even on separate PNRs.

Well, you have to be quick when you receive an EF notification. I saw the email the moment entered my inbox, went straight to AA.com, wasted about 25 seconds entering my partner's details, and it was gone by the time I clicked through to reserve.

You obviously didn't rise early enough!! Best of luck with the next one.

In my experience with EF alerts, there can be a significant lag (several hours) between availability arising and the alert being received.
Interesting - I was still able to click through until the final stage. The next time I searched, it was not longer showing in the results.

Success today! QF50 SFO-MEL on the 789. Booked over the phone as it was not showing on the AA site. Took about 25 minutes from the EF email coming in until the reservation.

Note that the award may have been available for several hours before you got the alert. I had an alert set for the last remaining Y award on a QF flight. After I snapped it up, it was four hours before the EF alert came through saying there were none left.

Guys can I just confirm that for mixed cabin redemptions in J or F there is no refund/reduced price upon completing the booking if entire journey is not in the booked class?

I thought there was but may be confusing myself with LifeMiles.

eg PER- DUB F is 115k points even if PER-DOH is F and DOH-DUB is Y, same as if both flights were F?

Yes priced based on highest cabin.
You may be thinking of Asia miles where it is calculated based on distance of segments and class.
