CE isn’t alone... it’s all over the net. The seats themselves aren’t the best... leg rest that is too short, not that easy to get comfortable, awkward positioning for certain activities, facing the person in the opposite suite for meals.

Yes, I’ve read some online reviews and noted the awkward positioning for some users/activities, but wondered what CE’s issues were, given that he is a huge fan of SQ.

Have you tested the new fitout yourself?

OK so 3 times I have experienced new R was 1 x SIN-PVG and 2 x PVG-SIN - flts are only 5 and a bit hours so not long haul test - I only tried bed for like 30mins but I think that was long enough to test - no better than old R IMHO

It is just ridiculous to have that much real estate dedicated to 1 single Suite / Seat - total over indulgence - I just hate the concept of SQ shrinking their R / F cabins as it leads to way diminished availability. My aim at start each year is to try to get 50 sectors in R / F - this is going to be virtually impossible with 6 R / 4 F layouts.

Sitting in 1A / 1F for take-off and landing you fell like your snout is pressed against the screen in front of you.

I have no problem with door being open indeed only time I ever close door in old R is to sleep - I hate feeling hemmed in. If dude opposite has a prob looking at me then by all means close the door - mine stays open

A double Suite where there is a double bed between partners when dining ridiculous - you don't even face each other.

The seat is comfortable to sit in - but recline / swivel etc just doesn't do it for me - I found I had to reach to rest glass when not wanting to hold it full time.

At request of SQ Auditor on my 2nd exp i did a comprehensive review and send in to SQ but I cannot find that email for some reason or I would cut and paste. Basically I have done 100s of sectors in old R and love it like a second home - no WOW factor with new R for me at all.

Certainly the space does look strange in the pix posted online but often the reality can be different. Apparently not, in this case.
Your point on the impact on availability is weighty.
 
Not sure why they couldn’t have designed it with some kind of fold out chair so travelling partners can dine together. There’s plenty of space to allow it. That would probably be the biggest issue for me if travelling with someone. You don’t just want to lie next to the person, you want to dine with them too.

The wobbly chair and kind of facing out the door when eating are only minor issues IMO.

I think in my trip report I opined that for the Solo traveller I’d prefer new suites but if I was with someone I’d probably prefer the old version.

Just my opinion of course.



EDIT: Oh and they should have put in a sodo fountain that dispenses Krug. Another oversight. :mad:

This is the crux of the issue with the whole "New" Suites. Literally halving the number of seats automatically leads to them releasing less seats to points bookings - when so many of us would love to try out travelling in Suites, I don't see how the new Suites can be a positive (unless you're points-rich where Advantage level works).
Give me old Suites any day, I'll gladly take that.
 
regardless of the availability I too enjoyed the old suites more.
though I cannot be a 100% if that was due to the old suites being a day flight and the new suites being an overnight flight and I was buggered

My first SQ redemption was Suites ZRH-SIN-MEL the whole way through for 112,625 KF Miles. Give me that any day - even with fuel fines of $300.
 
Has anyone had any recent experience booking a mixed class redemption?
Looking at SYD-SIN-MAA, where there is only J for the second segment.
Saver J is 84k miles, F is 116k. What would the F/J combination be?
Priced separately they would be 85 + 39 = 124k.

Your last line is the answer :) (124k, sectors would be priced separately. So better off just going for F)
 
It used to be the F rate applies for the whole journey with one leg in J. So I'd say 116k.

I did this to/from Vietnam a couple of years back.

And don’t forget you need to call to make mixed class rdpt - agent you get may or may not be totally familiar with process but you have it here in B & W to assist you.

For some reason I thought there was a reduced rate for mixed class.
Maybe it was "reduced" when comparing the total of two single segments.

When I search for F through availability on the app and website, it defaults to J - looks like the system cannot handle mixed class bookings.
So I'll have to search for separate segments - do married segment rules come in to play?

SQ does have married segments. But as per CE’s post, you need to call in for mixed class, it’s not necessarily a married segments issue.

It's not as complicated as you've written.
Just read CE's post above:

So you'll have to call to make the redemption, SYD-SIN-MAA, at the F rate. The agent will see that SIN-MAA caps out at J but the price for the entire itinerary will be the F rate for the journey regardless of the shorter segment being in J.

Doing MEL-HKG in a week and will be doing MEL-SIN (& SIN-MEL) in 777 and then the HKG legs in the new suites. Looking forward to experiencing the new suites. Will have our 22 month old with us, so hoping the extra space will be enough for her to run around in and climb up and down.

Whilst the SQ wording "Check the classes available ..." is true, it is of not much use to anyone, especially for those wanting to plan before booking. It's kinda what this site is about, in case you were unsure.
Is that a clip to MathNerd Kangol? I don't think it can be answered more accurately - nobody can help you with a mixed class booking except KF call ctr - they will advise if your desired flts are available or not available - you will need to make your decisions then. By all means search the sectors separately and be armed with that info but other than that it's up to SQ and nobody here can give you any meaningful advice on this..
 
I've selected couple seats for old and new suites, and we'll get to road test them one after the other coming back from Paris.... must say the vid of the new suites looks pretty bloody good.

Can understand the negative feeling about the cabin reducing by half, but some on here would suggest preferring more seats in a cabin is akin to sitting in economy.
