Jet airways in Trouble.

Agree, but the preamble in the AFF Gazette has you saying 'it's unclear' if it will fly again.

"Unclear?" I'd suggest it will never.

My personal view is that it's extremely unlikely we'll see Jet Airways flying again. But all of Jet Airway's media releases etc. refer to this as a "temporary" suspension and they are actually trying to resume operations. Hence why it is "unclear".

This is what Jet Airways has to say - Jet Airways | Important Update

Many of the recent stories I've read specifically name EY as being involved in ongoing negotiations, so I suspect this is a big part of what they are holding out for.

Oh, well then there’s hope. Not. We’ve seen with AirBerlin where this is going

Although, IIRC, slightly different operating models. Air Berlin was primarily low cost wasn’t it? (with a few long hauls offering business class).

Hard to make money off all economy planes (unless that’s what you specialise in, like easyjet). jet does have three classes of travel, and their business class wasn’t especially cheap (but was reasonable). So it might be possible to resurrect.

Airberlin did have an intra-Europe J product for a year or two before going broke. In fact, they had announced that they were expanding the product to be more than just the first row (and then went broke the very next day!).

Yes, but it wasn’t even a true ‘eurobiz’? I remember it being pretty lite on the benefits.

What do you define as "true" Eurobiz?

You got a blocked middle seat, a full meal on board, priority check-in, extra checked baggage allowance, "exclusive waiting area" access, etc.

There was some criticism at the time that it was basically like buying Platinum status for the flight because, apart from the meal on board, all those things were already given to Platinum members anyway. (Even the blocked middle seat was actually a published Plat benefit, although it was only "if available"). But that's not much different to short-haul J on any other European airline.

It must have been an earlier incarnation I’m thinking of. Before the blocked middle seat and meal (which, along with flexibility and lounge access I’d consider the ‘basics’ of a eurobiz)

Air Berlin’s rise actually was uncannily similar to Virginblue in the days- first launched as a semi-LCC and then staring to peddle for business travellers who used to always fly on the big legacy carrier (Qantas or Lufthansa). Actually, it was first German BA who started trying this and then ended up as one of many small airlines that got swallowed by AirBerlin. Too much to swallow, it turned out later.

Funnily, both then also got a very light intercontinental route network with quite a decent product and, even more similarities, Etihad starting to meddle. Can only hope that the two stories end differently because that newfound LH monopoly for non LCC-flights out of Germany sucks as much as it did in the 80ies.

Sounds like SG have jumped in to fill some of the domestic shortfalls and are entering into a codeshare agreement with EK

Tata should take control of them all, including air India.

But never change the air India Maharaja mascot please.. No one has a better mascot in the world IMO

They have missed the boat sadly. Ship has sailed. They could have become a solid and large competitor. Shouldn’t have got into bed with Etihad!

Air India and Indigo will have that market wrapped up long term.
