Woolworths gift card thread

No., it is just good business by the Cashrewards Team.

Last week they must have been making a killing as all the Amexers were pushing through large orders buying many months of GC spend in order to be the 50% Transfer Reduction.

So when people are throwing $$$$ at you there is need to have a special offer.

Whereas this week their Amex based customers would have dropped off the face of the earth, and so they have an offer to entice the non-Amexers.
I've always wondered if they actually make any money off gift cards

Nope, I've had conversation with one of the main guys at CR and they don't make anything off WW Gift Cards, they're just another front that WW uses to sell these GCs.
Thinking about it from WW's perspective: It gets customers spending (in some cases, very very large amounts of) money, which then locks that cash up in WW's coffers, and the liability then gets "cleared" only when the Gift Cards are redeemed (which in some cases will take months).
So WW flogs off their discounted GCs to any site that cares to offer them.

That's what I suspected all along

5% is already a decent discount.

That's why I asked myself many years ago, should we keep wish gift disxounts fairly quiet as if everyone got on it, woolworhts would simply scrap it or reduce it down to 3% as it was 'hurting' their bottom line

From a WOW perspective it also helps stop the $$ sensitive customer defecting to Aldis etc.

A locked in customers is a valuable thing.

There is also wastage on the GCs.

Are you stating that CR's do not make any $$ from selling the GC for WOW?

If so I find that very had to believe. Or are you implying that CR is owned by WOW? In which case it does make sense.

I know in my business that I offer discounts to lock in business. It also assists with cashflow management

Go to 7-11 and do it there. When it prompts for a PIN, just hit "Enter" and it'll ask for signature.

When did you start having this problem? I have never had this issue in the past.

Hmmm maybe its just my account

First I used 2 x coles prepaid MC
Then i tried to use a only1, it said the system doesnt allow payments via that method
I tried another coles prepaid MC and it came up with the same error.

I was able to use the coles prepaid MC at a 711 though as it had a pin

I have used only1 visa to top up my myki tens of times, most recently a few weeks ago. My cards have $100 in value and I top up the full $100. I have never been rejected unless I have incorrectly input details. They could have changed the system more recently but I don't have any more of them at the moment to test that.

Hmmm that's interesting .
Are you doing one at a time?

The fact it worked for me twice makes me think its flagged my account for whatever reason

Yes, I only top up as needed, every couple of weeks.

Multiple cards can be used if making a booking over the phone, the T&Cs don’t specify if the booking fee will be waived. As this is the only way to use multiple cards in one booking I would hope they would be.

I ended up buying multiple cards, and called up to use them on the phone. Bookings have to be made through Virgin Australia holidays - and the phone lines are only open Monday - Saturday (business hours).
