Freedom of speech

There has been a thread running for a week or two which has just been closed. It was about Senator Annings comments re the Christchurch incident and his right to comment on it. Towards the end, Israel Folau got a mention, and breaking news now tells me that he is about to have his contract torn up over his comments made yesterday. Prior to that, Qantas, ARUs main sponsor released a statement condemning him - it seems it may have been enough to force the hands of the ARU.

I always thought it was not possible to contract outside the law .... me thinks Israel is going to be ok.

As for Qantas and AJ - they should both be condemned as hypocrites!

Enjoy your freedom while it lasts possums… after the election there will be publicly funded er colleges to correct misinformed thought.

…and ….how such an August , truly historic Australian Institution as Q.A.N.T.A.S… became a social bellwether for new age , new world, just , equal, bigoted ...social reform… just evades me.

While I don’t even know what this thread is about ... Israel has been a contentious issue since at least the 60’s.

There's a fine line between freedom of speech and hate speech. Falau's comments when taken in context of his past comments arguably cross that line.
Those of us that aren't religious could ridicule him for having an imaginary friend in the sky along with make believe places (heaven and hell) but we don't. He should stick to rugby.

I feel bad for young adults and kids that are struggling with their identity and feelings and someone that is looked up to says this absolute rubbish

People’s kill themselves over words and beliefs like this, thinking family, friends or society will not love or accept them

cough Folau and the book of lies he spits hate from.

Geez, hate? There is belief and there is hate .... I think you're the one bordering on hate.

I'm not religious or have any hate for anyone in any community .... in over 10,000 post on this forum I've never used that word to describe someone!!!!

You need to tone down the rhetoric.... otherwise you're no different to whoever you disagree with.

What I hate is some poor person today is feeling bad about themselves and their body because someone they or the community looks up to is homophobic and is given a platform to spew their ignorance

Believe in your God/s but don't use it as a platform to hurt. The lgbt community suffer enough daily dealing with homophobic hate

Why? Just because he quotes the bible. It wasn’t that many years ago that the Catholic Church believed they were the only ones to make it into heaven. They also promoted the concept of “original sin” in otherwords if you weren’t baptised into the catholic faith you were condemned to a life in purgatory.
To have a heterosexual relationship outside the bans of marriage would also find you shovelling coal for lucifer. So frankly who cares? He is a numb nuts with no idea about which way is up .
If he said all labour voters were going to hell, would anyone care? No. It is a storm in a political teacup with everyone desperate to be on the condemnation bandwagon. There are far more vital and important issues we need to worry about. 40 years ago no one would ever know what some illiterate rugby player had to say. The joy and curse of social media. Thats my 2 cents worth.

Seems like it will have to be in Rugby League then if they can legally rip up his contract.

Am wondering of the motive.
After last time, he must have known the repercussion of this time.
Will be interesting to see what plays out.
Or maybe he just really is that stupid.

Ok so lets turn it around for a moment... Say a muslim footballer like Bachar Houli in the AFL posted publicly on his instagram that all infidels are going to hell. What would the reaction be from the free speech mob in that case ? Of course they would be the ones who would suddenly become outraged. See the hypocrisy?
