PR has a J and W class sale on with fares as low as A$1569 return Melbourne to Guangzhou.

Ex SYD/BNE is A$20 more except on Fridays, Sats and Suns when ex SYD only there's a further A$50 surcharge.

Many other destinations available.

A$1569 return to this major mainland Chinese city is good given PR ex MEL (to MNL) is normally A333s refurbished with Thomson Vantage XL lie flat beds 1-2-1 in J.

W class is the standard seven across:

Do you have any sample dates? I haven't been able to find any MEL-CAN fares at that price.

Mattg, unfortunately not as nor could I find any. However availability on some of the other routes such as MEL - SIN seems good. I will hunt for CAN later.

Airlines need to be careful that at least some sale fares on each advertised route are available lest Trade Practices legislation in Oz is contravened. Maybe there were some and they've been sold.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Through a Filipino travel agent in Melbourne, My Travel Solution, a friend booked a return in J for much later in the year to BKK with a MNL stopover allowing a visit to beaches in the central Philippine islands called Visayas for about A$2550. The domestic fare in Philippines was an add on but not sure how much extra, though not expensive. Lie flat beds in the A333s (configuration 1-2-1 on PR, not the 2-2-2 sometimes seen on for instance some mainland Chinese carriers) on all sectors.

It was easy to find the dates the traveller wanted. Stopovers in MNL are available both ways. The fare conditions claim this costs A$100 each time but that wasn't apparent in the fare charged by this agent.

For an equivalent trip via MNL to BKK, the cheapest other J fare with a quick search appears to be CZ (China Southern) that wants A$6000 plus return, so these PR fares are good value.

The cheapest nonstop MEL - BKK J return I could find for the same dates (ignoring TR, not a 'real' business class) was MH for A$2800, so given this PR fare seems to include gratis stopovers, for a two country tropical holiday it's agreeable. MH's A333s either have a 1-2-2 or 2-2-2 configuration, so less room per passenger than on PR's refurbished A333s. .

Likely because CZ would want an entirely separate fare CAN-MNL-CAN as they don't fly AU-MNL nor MNL-BKK non-stop (flying CZ would be impractical for these purposes anyway given the huge additional travel times). Using the stopover or hub of the operating airline will often be cheaper than trying to construct an artificial multi-city ticket on another.
