OT @mrsterryn I believe you may be some long lost relative. This thread seems very similar to another, “Oops need to fly to Tokyo to buy a bag”. After reading that thread and as I will be in Tokyo next week I have already set aside to visit a couple of shops in Ginza to look at a bag and watch that I do not need but like the look off. I suspect said items will return to Australia. ;).

You have done your research and as @Flying mermaid said, just go J. MrsM and MissM often convince me they have done research that shopping in the US is far better than AU. As I mentioned up thread we are both deluded.
Looks like there going to be two of us doing that. Catch you round Ginza.

Lol...Yeppers the extra luggage being Platinium does help with shopping returning home
Hope Mrs M and MissM are getting new bags as well

I will take that one on the chin. At around 11pm I suggest my proof reading skills were not up to standard.
Man.... It wasn't you that made the mistake. I was paying out on my own dodgy grammar. Sorry if you felt it was aimed at you!

I am not laughing at you two honest
I am contemplating Y over Yplus

You may say that but I suspect you would prefer J.

Just a small high jack I will be in Tokyo 8-10 Feb. Was going to be in the Shinjuku area but moved last week from the Hilton to Conrad so I will be in Shimbashi. I am in Sapporo 5-8 Feb for the Ice Festival, if it works for @Quickstatus and @Scott K maybe we should arrange a short notice AFF catch up in Japan.

I keep saying y or Yplus to husband....he keeps rolling his eyes
I suppose I have done quite a few random trips to USA in the last couple of years...and was trying to be good .
I think it might be a lost cause

Damn would have been good. But i’m due in Osaka by the 8th.
After that i’ll Be back in HK. No one heading to Hong Kong too is there?

I'd go bag shopping too but it wouldn't be for the type of bag you'd buy.
Well in that part of the world the baggage allowance is kg not piece.
Therefore I’ve (we’ve) got 12 checked bags on arrival at NRT+ plus the various carry ons (2x per pax allowed). I (we) really don’t need any more bags...

Just as a bit of an update for the A380
I recently went to LAX on a whim and a rather expensive (for economy ) ticket
I booked in the morning and flew out that evening for a few days
The seat was actually comfortable and I could fit. Very grateful though I did end up with a blocked seat besides me which made quite a difference

Being 190cm, I have on half a dozen times elected to buy Y+ on 3 different airlines to get the leg room. That was before I ever heard of "comfort seats"

I have resolved never to buy Y+ ever again. I did not get any sleep on any of the flights due to the solid barrier between seats containing the IFE screen and the table. No matter which way I moved and even after being supplied 3 pillows always had one of the barriers either side digging into me. In addition, depending on the carrier, if the person in front fully reclined, I couldn't even get out of the seat to go to the loo as there was insufficient room between the seat in front and the arm rest either side of me.

My choices in the future are Y or 2xY or J. Never again will I waste my money (or points) on Y+

Is it possible to book comfort seats with QFF points? Considering this option for my next USA trip.

In my case it's mostly shoulder room so I'm really not fussed about the A380 armrest issue, although I would like to try 787 with 2xY seats as that seems to be a reasonable option as mentioned here. Am SYD based though so it would probably be A380 SYD-LAX or SYD-DFW. Although SYD-BNE-ORD might be an option once that starts up.

On the return I will try to get on QF8 from DFW. I would just book a single seat as due to the payload restrictions and being WP, it is highly likely that I'll get a seat next to me free.
