Have contacted AA ATW desk twice yesterday, and twice this morning to be told that they cannot book this fare....not having much luck.

Might have more luck with BNE call centre, though be prepared to be put on hold a lot while they work out how to book it.

Just called 1800 673 4863 which is the Australian contact number on aa.com, and got the same response...

Is there another number to call for BNE?

I have just made a booking on this fare by calling 1800 673 486 (not 1800 673 4863) in BNE.
I have also tried to make a booking thru AA ATW desk for the same type of booking successfully last week.

My routing is syd-sin-hkg-pvg-nrt-syd (12237 mi) so it's < 13K. Still waiting for total fare calculation.
It's on L class so I guess I won't be earning anything on AAdvantage for the 2 CX flights, but I can still earning .5 pts on QF FF right?
