Travelling to UK via Istanbul in July 2019 and spending 3 days there before moving on. Are there any recommendations on which area and hotel would be most suited. Plan to do the usual "see the sites". Prior o'seas trip have used hotels with club room access ect but in Istanbul these seem scarce and pricey.

For my opinion you could check out the trip report I did for our Istanbul holiday .... just hit the link "The Ballot" in my signature below. It's a sensational city to visit, and you will fill 3 days in a heartbeat.

I asked the exact same question prior to my trip there a year or so ago.

I stayed first at the Four Seasons Sultanahmet, following amaroo's lead. Expensive, but high quality and right in the middle of the places you want to see.

When I returned a week later, I stayed at the Novotel at Karakoy, just over the river from downtown. An easy walk there or the sights in this locality ( and cheaper!!); or there is the tram. Plan to make use of the teams to get around - easy to use and cheap.

I'm heading to Istanbul in June 2019 and plan on staying at Four Seasons Sultanahmet. They have a sister property on the Bosphorus - you can use their facilities and there is a shuttle that runs between them apparently.

We have stayed twice at the FS in Sultanahmet - it is a fabulous hotel and the service is immaculate. Didn’t visit the one on the Bosphorus as we were just too busy with all the things to do.

My trip report below has a segment on Turkey - Istanbul, Ephesus and Cappadocia, Around the world in 40 days etc and of the Four Season’s Sultanahmet. Around page 7 Turkey starts. If you are there on a Sunday have the Brunch - yum :)

What's the budget you are looking at? Always difficult to recommend as there's a difference between a $100/night hotel and a $500/night hotel (and everything in between).
