Just wondering how the AFF gurus value a KrisFlyer mile. I often hear and see people valuing it more than QF / VA but just wondering how others value a KrisFlyer mile. I personally value it between 2 and 3 cents per mile. On that note, would you buy (legitimately of course) KrisFlyer miles at 0.97 cents per mile?

I'd be interested to know where you can legitimately buy KF miles. Given that they expire in 3 years I would only buy them if I needed a top up to book a flight I knew I was definitely taking. KF points are certainly more valuable than Qantas points in my opinion but I would still only value them at 1 cent if booking in economy and 2 cents if booking in business. Since I, personally, would never pay for business I try to think of my points as a way of flying business class at economy prices. For that reason, I will never "pay" more than 1 cent per point so if there is a surcharge of more than 1%, I wouldn't pay it.

I value our millions at 4 cents a mile. Mrscove has Miles close to expiry but her redemption nominees are very helpful and have fallen in love with flying on SQ for their favourite price.
We have plenty warehoused too from ATO payments to our fiscal fiend partner.
Qantas points saved us almost $33,200 cash on two First Class tickets to LAX a few days ago.
I do find Qantas points great for runs in business class to Sydney an Melbourne as the retail prices are pretty high.
SQ is easier for international flights.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

What is legitimate or not is a question of interpretation but KF's rules around redemptions are, in some respects, relatively more liberal than others. As far as I understand it you can book redemptions for anyone (not bound by familial restrictions like QF) as long as you nominate them prior to the booking. There are, however, restrictions around how many nominees you can have and number of times you can change them. In that context, KF points are regularly advertised on OzB for around 1.3cpp, with the vendor booking a redemption on your behalf. I've never bought points so I can't offer a view on the trustworthiness of doing so but plenty of folk seemingly do.

For the purpose of “buying” points I value it at around 1.5c per point, this seems to be where I've landed given mix of redemptions, availability when I want/need comparable competitor fares, and whether I would actually pay the value for premium cabin (example SIN-MEL return is 116,000 pts .. at 2c per point = $2320 + taxes ~ $2450 . Undoubtedly good value, but probably wouldn't pay that myself.

As for "buying" points, in a different position to most, but there are several ways I can legitimately "buy" points without literally buying points ...
- paying for anything in Australia on my SG issued visa, instead of AU Amex, I earn 2.4 pts/$, so that is effectively buying points after accounting for net FX fees (in our case Visa FX fees - the fee we pay to transfer money to Australia) and merchant imposed fees for the different payment types.
- offers that allow you to earn extra points on credit card by paying extra fee (eg an offer for paying 2.2% fee to earn extra mile per $ .. no thanks)
- forgoing annual fee waiver on credit card for 10,000 bonus miles
- Paying more for airfares that earn more points
- etc

I would have thought an accurate definition of ‘buy KF points’ was a stand alone transaction where you exchange currency for a pre agreed quantity of KF points.

I personally ‘cultivate’ and ‘harvest’ millions of KF pts annually but have never ‘bought’ any.

Using St George Amplify Signature Visa (0.825 [incl birthday bonus] KF miles per $ spent) and being charged 0.8% surcharge for (large) purchases

With all due respect kpc that is not buying KF pts - it is ‘cultivating’ or ‘harvesting’ pts dependant on the nature of the purchase.

Glad you are not contemplating ‘buying’ KF pts from OzB or such as nobody in their right minds would go down this path.

Ignoring the definition of buying v earning the maximum price we're accumulating KF points via MR is 0.85 cent/point using RP. Until 15th April....

Have no idea what their worth is - we've not stepped foot on a SQ flight for over a decade .... but we fully intend to blow all our MR points on very many SQ suites.

Our family members are running hard with five of these cards. My brother uses the miles before he scores the 10 % birthday bonus as he flies to France. He has become miles impoverished as he flies others there too..
I think the last time i bought a ticket with SQ was about 12 years ago.
We fly business class from PERTH then stay at Crowne Plaza overnight before flying on to London or Los Angeles in First or Suites.

Ok I had not realized both my brother and son still get that 10 per cent. I thought that by transferring the points as they needed to use them reduced their earn bonus.

0.01

They're only worth more if you would otherwise normally buy that award seat as a cash fare, in which case, they are worth less than 0.007 as that's the rough cash+miles rate of SQ.

You can buy KF miles if you are a member of Velocity and have a balance. Twice a year, you can buy up to half your balance of Velocity points to a maximum of 50,000 Velocity in each transaction. You can then trade these for KF miles. At the best rate, this works out at just over 3c per KF mile.

A KF mile is worth double a QFF point (at least).
Not if you can't redeem them.

Every time I've tried to redeem KF I run into problems. With QFF points I have the opposite experience. Hence why I indicated 'much better value in QFF points'.
