i've got a $50 virgin australia gift card I bought from coles

Trying to work out how I can use it to pay part of an upcoming flight cost.

On the virgin website it asks for an expiry date in the gift voucher / card section, but the gift card doesn't have an expiry date.

Can anyone advise how I can use the gift card?

Anyone know if you can use multiple of these Virgin Gift cards purchased from Woolworths in one transaction?

You can but you need to ring Virgin (07 3333 6600) in order to apply them manually.

on a hunch i checked the balance via the number on the back of the card and that gave me the expiry date.

Ok..what am I missing?

If I try that I get nowhere as you have to enter the number AND expiry date to check the balance?

The expiry date should be in 3 years time, but using the purchase date dates plus or minus 1,that all do not work.

Also the card has:

SERIAL NUMBER

CARD NUMBER

GIFT CARD PIN

and below the barcode a barcode number.

Can someone who uses them help out on how to use the $100 gift card please ?

ie Which number s the one to use, and how do I get the Expiry date.

Thank you.

PS: I am totatly amazed that Virgin does not seem to have any instructions on how to redeem with their Gift Card!!!

I know it's ridiculous that they don't have expiry dates easily accessible. VA call centre have access to this info (I had a similar issue!) , although if you know when you bought them, they are 12 months from date of purchase eg if bought on 1/08/2018 expiry will be 1/08/2019.

Thank you. Though after March they are meant to be 36 months according to their own website.

I did buy them early this morning and so that could be an issue too (ie may have to wait a day).

Can I confirm please that it is the CARD NUMBER that is used? ie not any of the other numbers.

Also they have a PIN, but that it is not used for anything!!!

thanks...wasn't aware that it had been extended. Yes it is the card number that is used to redeem.

3 year expiry is the new law from memory.

If they don’t honour this contact the regulator as non compliance was hefty fines.

Hopefully will show tomorrow as calendar only goes to 2/8/2021 at present and I bought 3/8/2018

Well just after midnight the 3/8/2021 ticked up and boom:

Check Gift Voucher Balance
You have completed required fields. Your balance is 100.00
You have successfully retrieved your gift voucher balance.

So that means if you buy a gift card you have to wait 1 day before you can use it, or at least till after midnight.

There's been a few different things mentioned here that don't match up against my experience so I thought i'd try to summarize and correct some of the minor inconsistencies.

- Virgin Australia gift cards purchased from Woolies/Coles can be used to pay for your flight
- The maximum denomination is $100
- You can't use more than a single card online - to use multiple cards you have to do this manually via the guest centre
- I'd suggest giving VA feedback that this is annoying and they should fix it (without the feedback, they aren't likely to prioritise it). However you want to provide this feedback respectfully (email or via the guest centre)
- It is correct that there is no expiry date listed on the card itself or on the receipt - also annoying!
- There's a 2 step procedure to work this out or you can figure it out in one step if you have the original receipt with the separate purchase/activation receipt.
- The expiry date is (as of 2018), 3 years from your purchase date. e.g. if the purchase date is 01/01/2018, your expiry date is 01/01/2021
- I repeat, look at your receipt and if your card is activated successfully then above should work
- If you don't have your receipt or can't remember the date you purchased, you can ring the 1300 number, enter '1' for gift card, put in the card number (hash to finish) and this is where you use the PIN. It will tell you the balance and the expiry date
- You can also ring the number and talk to a human who will walk you through exactly the same process (card number and PIN) except it will take a bit longer as you'll be reading it and they are just keying it in at their end..

cheers

I buy from my local Woolworths. You get 5% off them too should you have access of know someone with a Woolies Discount Card.

Hi Saab34
I want to buy from Coles to get Virgin Status credits. Not clear if this would work. T&Cs seem to say that gift cards are excluded. don't know how to buy Coles cards at 5% off.

Gift cards are excluded from the SC Coles Earn. You would need to test that theory to prove if it’s correct.

In terms of getting 5% off, I only get that at Woolies because my partner has a Woolworths discount card for working for them.

Thanks. there are ways to get %5 off Coles if you have a few things such as AGL accounts but I have none of those.

Just did this via the 13 67 89 number and was told, no, only one voucher per booking. CSA suggested booking one way fares.

Thought about HUCA but couldn't be bothered. They'll get used eventually.

For those that this has worked, was it for bookings put into "hold this price" / pay later?
