I booked a reward flight from Sydney to Bali over a month ago and soon found out that I booked to arrive on the only day of the year when Bali airport is closed - Nyepi day - 7 March 2019. Even Garuda were still selling tickets for this arrival date despite it being clear these flights would never eventuate.

I emailed Virgin pretty much straight off and the reply was basically wait until the flight is cancelled and contact them then.

Even now a month later they are still selling tickets on VA33 and 37 from Sydney and presumably flights from other origins despite knowing the airport will be closed.

The issue I have is once they decide to cancel these flights there will be heaps of people scrambling for seats on the days before and after and I may not get on a flight that puts me where and when I need to be.

So I am waiting with nervous anticipation hoping to be first in that phone queue once the email drops....

Thanks V. Always exciting.

You need to get the attention of someone higher up to fix this one.

I’d probably communicate with the Facebook team as they are based at HQ and have access to high level people. Those in call centers don’t. When you contact them copy in a link to the source also.

There was a VFF rep on here maybe PM them also.

If your passing via an Airport ask to speak to someone higher up. Ask for the duty manager or airport manager. Those in the lounge are quite helpful also. Lounge Managers have report lines to GM.

Cancel it online. Do you have Velocity status? If, so - log into your bookings and cancel from there.

We cancelled reward flights online 2 months after booking them and there was no problem. Points were reallocated almost immediately and there was no correspondence to be entered into.

Isn't there a $30 charge for cancelling award bookings? I know I've paid the charge quite a few times.

Looks like the message got through to those with the power to actually do anything about it. The flights into Bali on Nyepi have all been cancelled and I got what I needed courtesy of a phone call from Customer Service last week.

So look out they do watch what happens here... :)
