TomCat's new digs!

We have a similar “freestanding” 900mm oven in the centre of cupboards. I suspect they are doing exactly what was done with ours.

The legs on these ovens are detachable. You can stand them on the floor, and then have to clean under it, or you remove the legs and mount the base of the oven on the sort of plinth you have. A bit of silicon along the gap between the bench and oven, and no more cleaning problems.
Our notes say it was meant to have a kicker in front of the feet to seal it in .

That look is effectively gone when you put cupboards and bench top right up either side of it, and so the “built in”approach actually looks best. Most of the advantage of the “freestanding” is having the one unit with oven and stove top all as one, rather than separate units. Tends to be little things, like the stove top controls on the front of the oven, rather than on the bench top.

I had one set up the same. A 900 illve (Hardly Normal special) short legs removed & set on a "pad" with continuous kick board.
Took it out earlier this year for a 900 Bellings so kick board gone & unfortunately the external dimension of the Bellings was a tad bigger than what was there so just a little work required on the granite & cupboards. Anyway it looks grand & I've got 3 ovens & a seperate grill.

Good lord. 3 ovens to clean

Apparently there are people that will come out and clean them for you.

This is the plan...

Like a few things in this house, I guess we'll find out what it looks like when its finished. We had no idea what our stairs would look like, nor the cupboard underneath as neither were shown properly on the plans.

So we can see the continuous kicker that’s in the plan going straight across the space.

Like husbands? <runs>
Dad always used to clean our stove. In my house? What stove?

We only have one payment left and it’s only 10%. Plus you can be penalised for withholding....

I’m no lawyer, however I believe that you have a contract which hasn’t been fulfilled (by the builder) ergo, he or she need to put it right.

Thing is, we paid the invoice during the week. Because when we saw the house last week it was correct. It's been stuffed up since we paid....

I suspect it wouldn’t matter anyway. They would still demand, and probably be entitled to, payment for all the other work they’ve done. It’s a rectification issue and every building has rectification issues but payments can’t be with held because of them. Our apartment block has drainage issues, the apartment we lease in Melbourne has significant drainage issues to the extent that fibro walls are buckling and the carpet in our apartment has pretty much been ripped up. And that block is only 3 years old. We are living with it until January but it will need to be replumbed and recarpetted when we exit. All at the builders expense.

Welcome to the world of building!

I can confirm that there are people that come out to clean your ovens and it's exceptionally good value

I cannot find a cleaner who will do this. But I have found a specialist service in my area.
I shall give them a try. Oven cleaning is the one thing I hate even more than ironing.
:)

I found a product that was quite good. It gives you a heavy duty bag that you put all the trays in and leave to soak. And the usual gel stuff for the oven itself. Either that or get a new oven!

There are a couple of specialist ones in Adelaide (I've used both - a friend stayed her once while I was away and that was her gift to me - much preferred to flowers)

It it’s kind of embarrassing isn’t it? So much freakin grease.

I used the same one (on the oven in question) and IIRC got it from Woolworths - and second your recommendation. Works well without all the scrubbing.

Here's another pic from our inspection report; brick to the left and render to the top/right/bottom.

Supervisor is looking into why it happened and if it can be fixed. Looked at a lot of houses on my drive to work this morning and not a single one with a rendered portico has render around the front door...

You mean from that pic that they left some brick exposed?

The evidence from the other places is pretty conclusive, but it sounds like the Supervisor had conceded the point already.
