I've just seen that Amex have increased the annual fee for the Platinum Charge card from $1200 to $1450 and the Travel Credit will increase from $300 to $450. There are some other changes including with Travel Insurance being extended to additional card members, a free digital subscription to the AFR, Accor Plus membership and some expanded lounge access. The incresaed fee will apply to new applicants from 17 July and all renewals after 1 November.

What's the change to the lounge access? Seems the same as far as I can tell.

According to the Canstar article in the link in the first post:
"Expanded access to the American Express Global Lounge Collection, which will include unlimited access for primary and additional cardholders, and two guests each, to The Centurion Lounge Network. Amex said this will extend to more international airports in the future."

I'm not sure how different this is to before.

So with the increased credit a real net rise of $100/yr. Not sure if it's going to be viable for me going forward, especially considering the reduced SPG benefits.

does anyone know if you can apply for the charge card and get the bonus if you already hold an another amex issued card?
the card has been held for more than 18 months.

Negative. You must not be a current AMEX card holder for at least 18 months in order to obtain the bonus points.

NO, the terms are pretty clear, no bonus if you currently hold any Amex issued card...

thanks for the quick response benjy and robbo135.
looks like that's different to what it used to be. I had sign up for charge card last year whilst holding an edge, and still got the sign up bonus.

Has anyone on this forum been able to upgrade any of Amex card to the Plat Charge? Or it needs to be apply in a separate application? Thanks.

Maybe it was just one guest....who knows. Hardly adding much value.

Finally used a Centurion lounge for the first time at DFW....and it really wasn't that good. Was small and over-crowded.

Used Cent Lounge in LAS last Sept and it is so ordinary - we actually spent more time outside than in and those who have been through LAS will know how ordinary terminal is in general.

I went back to the AA lounge in terminal C which has been refurbished. Much nicer. Obviously, food and drink offering in the Amex lounge were better, but the bar was pretty low to start with.

I was there last year and thought both the bar and food offerings pretty good. Space and seating nothing special agreed

I agree. Lounge options are pretty sparse in LAS (no AA or DL lounge) and it was definitely better than the terminal (very busy however).

I would definitely suggest a seperate application. If they allowed you a product transfer it would need to be from another one of their Charge Card products not one of their credit card products.

Always worth an ask though if you want to go ahead with it.
