Not sure where to ask this, so if I am out of order, please delete or move.

Have the Qantas Assure app on my phone and linked to Google Fit so I am counting my steps every day and earning points.

Going overseas on a trip for 5½ weeks in August, but I will have data turned off on my phone. I am guessing this app and Google Fit need data to function.

I usually take my old 3G flip phone when I travel and buy sims in Malaysia, UK etc., to keep in touch with people etc on the road. But that won't work for this app. Maybe I need to buy some sort of el cheapo smart phone as my second phone now.

As I will be doing a lot of walking, sightseeing etc, I really want to keep earning points. However there is something in the FAQ's for QA that says the app doesn't work overseas.

Anyone had any problems with it while travelling? How have you managed with data etc?

Yes agree, once you get wifi, get it all synced up. The syncing can take previous days build up data. I'm not sure how far back it can stash data but presume limited to the devices memory.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

All good if u have wifi but I would suggest synching whenever you have a chance just in case. I’ve done it that way and no issues

Months.. Have installed app on family members phone. They never use it. Opened it recently after many months and spend about 5 minutes accepting all the goal achieved alerts.

Was it like a windfall on a pokies machine (granted lowest return it could offer)?? :)

The same sort of thing happened to me. I downloaded the app, set it up with my goals ... and then at the last minute decided not to go with Qantas Assure after all. Twelve months later I revisited my decision and took out a Qantas Assure policy. I opened the app for the first time in a year, and a week later it put 3400 points into my Qantas FF account!

Can't remember the exact amount maybe a couple thousand points as family member was still in the promo phase with the good points on offer.
