WP on China Eastern Airlines ...

I have to go to Shanghai next week for the first time ever. Looks like i need to travel Monday and the only flight is QF301 the codeshare with China Eastern on their plane.

I've never been on China Eastern. Wondering if they are any good, wondering if we can upgrade, wondering if we can choose seats, entertainment etc.

Some broad advice would be good.

thanks in advance.

As a starting point, here are the benefits listed on the Qantas site:

Benefits with China Eastern

As a Platinum Qantas Frequent Flyer, when you travel with China Eastern on a Domestic flight within Mainland China^, or an International flight between Mainland China^ and Australia, have your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership card with you to receive:
  • Priority Check-in
You can check in at China Eastern Business Class Check-in, regardless of your class of travel. Show your Qantas card at check-in.
  • Priority Boarding
Enjoy access to the Priority Boarding lane (where available).
  • Lounge Access - Shanghai and Mainland China^
Enjoy access for you and one guest to China Eastern Lounges throughout Mainland China^, when you and your guest are flying together with Qantas or China Eastern on a Qantas (QF) or China Eastern (MU) flight number. Show your boarding pass and Qantas Frequent Flyer membership card at the lounge.
Some other advice:

- You will have access to the QF F lounge in Sydney
- You will have seatback IFE in Y
- If flying in economy seat selection will likely depend on the fare type purchased - if Saver or Flex you should get seat selection for free
- I've had one excellent and one terrible flight with MU. Terrible flight was mostly due to other pax behaviour. YMMV
- Not possible to upgrade with QF points on MU operated flights

other customers hocking loogees.

Yep, you can add throwing rubbish on the floor and leaving the toilets in a filthy state to the list too. I've found this to be pretty standard on flights to mainland China regardless of carrier though..

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Be prepared for disappointment. Stinky congee breakfast and other customers hocking loogees.

ahh ha ha ... I have arranged to travel on the sunday with QF. now it's just going to be average service, grumpy crew, messy bathrooms and aussie bogans in thongs. at least no loogees. lol

My experience in J is that MU service is far superior to QF. The only annoying this is that IFE only works like 30 minutes after takeoff and 30 minutes before landing.
