Hi all,

Work has booked me through a travel agent up to Brisbane for a day trip in a couple of weeks and flying back to Melbourne on the last flight. I would love to purchase Economy X or put in an upgrade for Business but i would need to do this out of my own pocket. Can anyone advise how the payments will work for this? Can i just pop in my own credit card details to the booking?

Cheers

Grab PNR and go into VFF and bid for upgrade there
Economy X with TA booking might work with PNR and then picking your own seat in rows 3 to 6 or 7 or over wing.
Try the bid now upgrade anyway.
Or if you provided your VFF number even better.

Hi all,
Thanks for all the advice. I receive an email last night inviting me to use the Upgrade Me service. I followed the link, made a bid and was advised that it could not be processed at this time.

I then spent 40 minutes on the phone to the guest contact centre and they advised that as the booking had been made by a travel agent only they could process the upgrade request and to contact them.

Is it just me or does this seem like a lost opportunity for Virgin? I wonder how many people have tried to bid but been unable to do so because of this reason.

Hi all,
Just to close the loop here. The GCC advised that it was blocked as my first flight on the PNR was with Qantas. They suggested it was rectified and to try again. It wasn't. The advice then became that your travel agent must do it.

In the end I was glad I couldn't pay. economy X was chockers and Business had kids climbing over the seats.

Safe travels everyone

Pity to know this is happening with VA *about the misbehaving kids and parents not doing anything*.
Thanks for the info though, looks like the bogans have now taken over with VA, and looks like its back to QF for my flying!

I've had similar issues selecting seats online when my PNR contained a QF flight. After the GCC removed the QF flight from the booking in their system I was able to select a seat as normal. I've never had any trouble with the UpgradeMe bids.

Interestingly my smalltalk question to her while she processed the change "is it looking like a fairly full flight?" was met with "I can't disclose that for commercial reasons".

Slightly relevant - just did my first Upgrade Me bid as it was discounted by 20%. Put in the minimum bid as I'm a tightwad and thought I'd be in with a chance as it's TSV-BNE which is often empty. Bingo, I got it for $80. More for the SCs than anything. Trust I'll get them at the J rate.

Great work on the cheap upgrade :)

Sadly you will still earn points and SC's as per your original ticket...sorry to be the bearer of bad news

I did Bid Upgrade PER to SYD on VA long ago.
SC earn as mentioned up above is at the rate for the class you originally booked.

Too good to be true. Well at least I get the comfy end of the plane.
