Hi Everyone. I have activated my Hilton Status in the past from my account and as usual the button is gone and says "You opted-in to the Diamond Elite tier of the Hilton Honors™ program on 30 Mar 2016."https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/ProgramBenefits/TermsConditions/index.htm#18

This status expires 1st April and I was going to do what I usually do and soft land to gold and return to Diamond to reactivate. This is a long and painful process, especially considering my review date isn't until August.

I was talking to a friend of mine who said he was in a similar situation and just contacted velocity and they re-triggered it. I'm not sure how true this is.. not saying he lied to me but have a feeling he may have gotten mixed up with what I meant. Has anyone else tried this, contacting velocity after they have activated the benefit to have it re-triggered?

My Gold benefit was listed as available but it had the date of the last time I triggered the benefit and I could not do online. Sent email to Velocity and they have re-activated the available benefit.

I then applied for Hilton Gold towards end of last year but it took ages and still no status. Sent another email and Gold status came through.

I was firmly told by Velocity that activating both gold and diamond with HH is a one off. Ie, if you achieve Velocity gold you can apply for HH gold. If you drop to silver and then go back to Velocity gold you cannot apply gold HH gold again.

I know that is the rules but can confirm I've been switching between gold and platinum to apply for HH Gold and HH Diamond for many years.

Regarding Hilton Gold status mine also stated Opted In before sending email.

The email address appears to be the specific email address for dealing with VA Gold.

I emailed and asked as a long shot and to my surprise they let me re-activate it! First time used in Jan 2013.

Guess I got lucky

Yes it's quite good. Gold will get you a free continental breakfast and a space available upgrade.

Take about 4 weeks and usually a follow up email or two to get linked though, so make sure you leave yourself enough time.

As in, a proactively-sent email asking nicely to be upgraded if space is available? I've been HH WP for a few months now but haven't actually booked a stay yet. Will probably do so later this year. Thanks in advance!

For some strange reason, my Diamond HH membership just doesn't seem to have expired. First applied as WP in March 2016 and still going strong.

It is very country specific as in Australia and Europe good, Asia better and US average to dreadful.

That wasn't my question. I was specifically asking about the process to obtain the upgrade i.e. whether it's done automatically, or you have (or should) 'ask nicely' beforehand or at check-in.

No need to email, you'll usually be auto upgraded if space is available prior to check-in or at check-in. Depending on how you go about check-in. I have done this online but had it upgraded on arrival.
